hi all, my hdd suddenly failed and its not detected in Computer (went into management and its not listed there too)... while loading up, it doesn't show as well.

Is this HDD a goner?

I might want to see what important data are on it and if theres need to recover them. Any reliable shops I can go to? And does the diagnosis and repair/recovery costs a bomb?

You can try http://www.accplus.com.sg/

Data recovery is never cheap to start with.
You should have backup important data consistently.

In your case, no software will help since it can't be detect physically. Likely need specialised tool to read off the removed disk.

Most reputable data recovery centres offer free diagnosis. Avoid those that do charge, unless they are very reputable, like Ontrack.

Accplus and CBL offer free diagnosis.

As for the recovery charges, it will depends on the fault of the disk.
It is classified into, logical, which is software defects, firmware and hardware. It does not necessary cost a bomb as some of them can be as low as $300 to as high as $2800.

Go for the free evaluation and then make a decision from there.

My favourite is Accplus Technologies for its professional and fair charges.

Does it make any ticking sound? if yes, that's a sign of the HDD failing.

Have you tried to relocate the HDD to another SATA connector just to be sure? or you can plug it into a SATA/USB adaptor and connect it via USB to see if it's being detected.
