my raid 5 degraded recently, it was finally rebuilt but i notice some files cannot be opened, e.g. some pdf corrupted, or some excel prompts error when opened. in some cases, my jpg picture opened with half of it corrupted (black or white or rainbow).

I am using intel rapid storage raid 5 for 4 x 1 TB. so its software raid. I have used the intel rapid storage to perform a verification, but no errors were reported after the verification completed.

now i am attempting a chkdsk. will a chkdsk work on raid volume?

are those damaged files permanently gone? are there solutions?

You got data scrubbing like synology nas?

so sorry, what do you mean?

all i know is that mine is intel software raid ich10r. the software used to manage the raid is intel rapid storage technology.

to add on, my server was basically flushed with lots of problems that require many rebuilds. sometimes, during halfway of a rebuild, a faulty sata cable will cause a restart and force a second rebuild.

there was once it got so serious that intel cannot recognise one of the member disk, as a result, i followed a tutorial which guided me to delete the raid5 metadata and to rebuild the array with the help of testdisk. amazingly the testdisk got back my array. however, some files inside are corrupted.

could write back cache flushing be the problem here?
earlier, i had it disabled, but after upgrading to win8, i forgotten to disable it and it defaults back to enabled. since then, my pc has had a few sudden shutdowns.
could this be the reason for some of the corruption?
