SSD on Sata 1 can still make a difference, if the HDD is the bottleneck. Bootup time on my 4 year old desktop went down from 125 seconds to 21 seconds :) My old hdd was running on Sata 2 and the new C300 is being detected only as a Sata 1 device. But the SSD still outclasses the HDD.

yes no doubt there will be a leap in performance it's just that for the money you pay you'd want to maximize its performance.

My Crucial C300 128G is really slow on 4K QD32. Only 32 MB/s based on CrystalDiskMark. Any Bos, know where my bottleneck is?
I am on Sata 2 without AHCI support (MSI P965 Neo mobo); Wind 7 Ultimate 64 bit.

Without AHCI you will not get NCQ , therefore increasing the queue depth will not show as good an increase as having NCQ. Simple as that i believe.

With NCQ multiple simultaneous IOs can be queued natively on the disk, for SSDs this is heaven as they can surge ahead to finish them quickly without having to wait for the SATA controller.

But remember queueing of many simultaneous IOs is not very common so the benefits of NCQ are questioned by many people in the community right.

Hey guys,
I'm thinking of getting a SSD soon and i've got some questions that i need some help with and here they are...

1)i'm considering between vertex 2,intel 320 and crucial c300 which is the most bang for buck ssd?, i've googled about this 3 but it's just so confusing, everyone is saying different things :(
2) can anyone share as to huch memory would be used up after formating either a 80,120,128gb ssd?

Oh I see... So 4K QD32 measures that.
Can I enable AHCI on a Sata 3 (6Gb/s) expansion card plug into a PCI-E 1.0 X 1 slot??

personally, i got the C300 from an amazon MO here in hwz... of course u might get complications if d thing breaks down(u gotta ship it back to d states)... but at $290, i believe it is a steal(go to marketplace... i think someone is selling it there)... n its my first dive into ssd... if ure afraid of complications... get d intel 320... reliable... if its ure first dive, u'll definitely feel d speed of d ssd as compared to mechanical drive, but u wont even recognize d differences btw d other drives...

as for d reserve space, i think ive got about 109 +/- gb after formatting my 128GB...

usually for normal harddisk we can check for bad sector, how about SSD drive, is there some software or ways to make sure it is working, especially buy second hand SSD drive? :):):)

ohh okay thanks a lot that helped me understand a little better, i think i guess i'll stick to intel 320 they seem to be the most budget friendly and easily available to me :)

Hi bros here,

I have recently bought the C300 128GB from MO davidquah- amazon order.
I have tested a few times and found it to be not so smooth running operations as compared to my current plextor m2 64GB. Have tesed out with clone over OS and even clean installation but find it not really that fast, maybe could be due to firmware issues of the C300.

I am using this ssd on a intel SATA 2 laptop platform, so now i am i am in a dilemma to choose between a

1. Intel 510 120GB ($399) Marvell 88SS9174 controller
2. Plextor M2 128GB ($388) also Marvell 88SS9174 controller
3. Vertex 3 120GB ($425) SandForce®2281 (or must get the max iops?)

For sandforce, not really feel that good in buying as it compress the data in order to be fast, right? But hope bros using sandforce can prove me wrong - :)

Any sandforce or marvel supporters bros can share your advice?

thanks a lot.

What do you mean by "not so smooth"? if you compare real-life performance between current SSDs, there should be little between different ones. perhaps you can describe your problem better, and there some other underlying reason behind it. by the way, have you benchmarked your C300 to see if the synthetic performance is acceptable?

After i have install ati vga card drivers, i am not able to open the ati CCC on C300.

Whereas in plextor M2, there is no problem with it.

Maybe too fast to response? Heard there are firmware not stable for C300

That's rather unusual.. And it sounds more like a software issue. Anyhow, what firmware version are you on? No harm flashing to the latest 0007.

Already flash to the latest 007 before i start.

Not really software issues as i tested re-install new OS on both drive.
One works and the other fail. Maybe i'll got a lemon?

Will try out sandforce vertex 3 to see how good it is, since i have already tried 2 marvel controllers.

is it only the ATI CCC that's giving you problems? you are not really describing the problem well. i'm assuming Sata is set to AHCI mode? and once again, have you done a benchmark to see if the synthetic performance is up to par?

By synthetic performance benchmarks, do u mean using CrystalDisk or HDTune?
yup! there are plenty of such benchmark results online that you can compare your own results with, this will give some kind of indication whether your SSD has been set up and running properly.

wow! with data transfer kit for US$199.99, I believe the previous Newegg and Amazon deals were for the non-data transfer kit version.
