I realise that Windows 7 is repeatedly mentioned wrt SSD installation. Can I safely say that WinXP does not support SSD or rather, will have problems during and after installation? Please enlighten. thanks !!

main reason is TRIM, which is supported natively by Windows 7, but not by XP.

experts, can advise me how do you transfer windows in notebook to ssd.
I know I have 2 options,
1. by make image of hd and copy to ssd
2. install new fresh windows

I prefer no.2, but how do we can get the windows serial number? Now, new notebook just simply put the image file of the OS in hidden partition in the hd.

Could be in the battery compartment also. Need to remove the battery to see it.

There should be an option to create your own recovery discs from within your OS for most notebooks that do not come supplied with them. You can then use the recovery discs to reinstall your OS on your SSD. There should be no need for a serial if you only change the storage device.

Personally, I will get Vertex 3, Vertex 3 MAX IOPS or Force GT

Corsair Force Series GT ~ OCZ Vertex 3
Corsair Force Series 3 ~ OCZ Agility 3

Vertex 3 Max IOPS uses 32nm toggle mode NAND from Toshiba.
The Force GT and Vertex 3 uses Synchronous NAND which are more expensive than Asynchronous NAND and are faster with incompressible data

If you are just using it as systems drive any SSD will do

Not quite, as I believe there is still the option of running TRIM manually in XP.

You can also try backing up the OEM key and after installing windows, restore that key. See guide like the following...

So the Vertex 3 max iops is faster than Force GT?
So far no reviews on force GT yet.

I am asking for comparision in the 120GB category..
Because lower capacity drives suffer from performance due to fewer NAND dies etc ( Anandtech got a storybook on that)
