Hi guys

Could someone recommend me a SSD brand and size to use as C: in a windows system?

I'm using Win7 32 bit and my pc is used mainly for internet usage and old games (pre-2008), and also lots of photo editing. examples of old games would be mech commander 2, fallout 3, simcity 4, and not much else.

my graphics card is a leadtek 7900GTX on dual displays

my photos will be stored off the SSD, on a separate HDD (at this moment havent decide if will be internal HDD or external HDD) but my photo software adobe elements 2.0 (yes, 2.0) and picasa will be on the SSD.

Try Intel 320 / 510 series or Cucial M4. Go for at least 128GB & above cuz you won't be that tight on space..

Erm, im thinking of changing my HDD to a 120gb SSD but i can't decide which to buy.

Im using http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3764#ov motherboard.

And also another qsn, there wont be any problems if i change my dvd writer to SATA2 port from SATA3 port right ?

Your mobo supports SATA 6GB/s. You might want to consider the OCZ Vertex 3 or Agility 3 series.

Is your mobo SATA 3GB/s or SATA 6GB/s?

I got this SSD during comex and really feel whether does it really worth buying but after looking at the read/write speed, I had no second doubt.

Got home,
- use the quick format method to start off as mentioned in this forum and did a fresh installation of WIN 7 Ult- 64bits and works fine.
- I did another fresh installation of the same O/S on my old 250GB HDD for contingency. (make SSD offline by plugging out the sata and pwr cable)
- After the second installation of the O/S, I make it offline and plug back the SSD
- PC unable to boot up with the follow message IIRC "BOOTUP MANAGER MISSING" <--- First Sign of Disappointment and wtf!
- 1TB HDD as a secondary active drive, SSD Main active and 250GB HHD offline
- Recover the error by using the O/S cd
- Work pretty fine for the first few days and the WEI give me a rating of 7.8 on my primary hard disk ....this is really impressive!
- Today BSOD, followed by SSD totally disappear from the BIOS <--- Total Disappointment and double wtf
- Recovering method, recycle power twice and the SSD recovered......WTF is this SSD? Is it really stable???

I gave up Vertex 3 despite following all the necessary steps in their forum with latest firmware and it still BSOD. Jump over to Intel 510 and the system have been up for weeks without BSOD.

Do u mean its' performance is not as good as vertex 2 n therefore cheaper?

isit advisable to keep some space say. 10% in SSDs? esp. those without overprovisioning. eg. m4 crucial?

for sandforce SSD. filling it to almost brim. adverse impact on performace, isit significant??

Available in sls now. Limited quantity.

No reviews out yet but performance will be slower than Vertex 2. Good performance for its price.

1st, check whether it is sata or IDE..

Which model of SSD don't really matter.. the more price you pay, usually the better performance you get. As for whether it is value for money, that will be very subjective..

second that but seems like general agreement is ocz more.. issues?
im getting a SSD for my desktop first. most likely a M4. wondering 64 or 128. local or overseas though.

for latop i checked the dimension, connections and other forums. most if nt all 2.5inch will do. nt sure bout sata 2 or 3 though (laptop)
im also thinking of getting 1 for my laptop perhaps nearing end of year
