well, you *could* dont declare, but that would be illegal, and we dun do illegal stuff right? :)

but srsly, if u bring a laptop ovrseas, buy the 256gb c300 or watever exp SSD, and swap ur laptop hdd with the SSD... how to check?

as long as you opened it you can always say it's yours. Only brand new in box have to declare.
this is just the way it is, not some complex tax evasion method so don't ban me or anything

I see no reason to buy the newest and greatest SSD. I prefer to pay bargain prices for previous generation SSD.

OCZ Agility 60Gb was US$129 last week. If you buy 2 pieces in separate orders and send to vpost to consolidate, you won't be charged GST. I had already bought 2x OCZ vertex 60Gb for US$149 each otherwise i would have grabbed the agility at 129. At US$129, that could be just under S$200 per piece including vpost shipping! (in which case you probably don't need to consolidate shipping to avoid GST - but better to play safe).

Anyway, prices are bound to go down further in order to clear the final stocks. That's the time to buy more.

Today's solid-state drives: The value perspective
Quantifying the value of today's SSD goodness

Value comparisons have become a bit of a tradition here at TR. We rolled out our first CPU value article way back in 2007 and followed up with a second look a year later. A quantitative assessment of the value proposition has since become an integral part of our CPU reviews, and we've even considered the value of graphics cards. What can I say? We loves us some scatter plots.

So should enthusiasts. A quest for the best value is deeply ingrained within the community's collective psyche. We're interested in getting the best bang for our buck—finding the proverbial sweet spot that delivers the fastest possible performance at a reasonable or at least justifiable cost. Our value scatter plots tackle performance and price at the same time, neatly mapping a landscape that we can then scour for the best combination of those elements.

OCZ Agility 60Gb is US$129, not much reason to get V+.

Yes V+ has Seq read of 226. But Vertex is 216. Close enough.
More importantly, Vertex is like 2x as fast for random reads and writes. Agility BM is nearly identical to vertex.

SSD Buyers Guide
When you build that high performance, custom PC it’s easy to see the benefits of a faster processor or beefier graphics card, but high-performance storage is still a confusing topic. Instead of having two major brands to choose from, as with processors or graphics cards, there are many different types of SSD, all of which perform differently in some way. To add even more confusion, drives are then sold by partners with completely different names rather than keep the original designers branding in the same way as Nvidia or ATI’s GeForce or Radeon graphics cards.

With this in mind, we’ve decided to knock together an SSD buyers guide, listing the different controllers and their pros and cons, as well as exactly which SSDs use which controller. While some drive manufacturers claim that only enthusiasts care about what’s inside an SSD we feel the continued high price of drives means that people need to know exactly what's in the box before they should buy one.....

i muz say, 60 / 80 drives are great for desktop use, but too small for notebooks. And in my case my notebook's using 1.8inch drives, so selections' pretty limited, basically Runcore Pro IV and Intel X18-M. But i guess i'm more of a niche customer...

Just in case anyone was wondering, Extended drives are Vertex 2 drives with capacities 60GB, 120GB, 240GB, 480GB. They are physically the same drives as 50GB, 100GB, 200GB, 400GB but with less reserved space, more usable storage space

Get the extended drives now because they are cheaper

I think you'll need a U.S. credit card. I couldn't get my order processed using vpost and a local credit card.

Now trying out borderlinx's concierge service.

But, he mentioned there is a firmware issue on the RealSSD C300,
can anyone who have C300 confirm it?

I have two C300. Anandtech mentions that a new firmware should be available soon, but to date, it's still the 0002 firmware. However, seems that the update tool is new. Not sure if the old update tool is the one that bricked some C300s, or this is the one that bricked some C300s. Will update my C300s firmware once my new rig is up.
