OCZ Vertex 3 EX Series SSD Pictured, 2X Performance Over Previous Generation

OCZ's first SSDs based on the latest SandForce SF-2000 series controllers have taken shape. The Vertex 3 EX is one of the first of this kind by the company. The Vertex 3 EX is driven by SandForce SF-2582 controller. It comes in the 2.5-inch form-factor, and uses SATA 6 Gb/s interface. Available in various capacities between 64 GB and 512 GB (usable 50 GB to 400 GB), the SF-2582 churns out transfer speeds of 550 MB/s (read) and 525 MB/s (write), double that of SF-1200 driven SSDs. The drive also provides a staggering 80,000 IOPS in 4K random write. A power-loss data protection system mechanism protects the drives from loss of data in event of power failure when data is being written.

Plextor M2 SSD Now Shipping
Plextor announced their second generation series of SSDs at CES last month, and now they've sent word that the drives are shipping. The Plextor M2 SSDs use a SATA 6Gb/s interface and deliver top line read speeds of 480Mb/s and writes of 330MB/s, which incidentally is faster than the 400MB/s and 300MB/s quoted in the initial product announcement ....

OWC

I am using the OWC Mercury Extreme Pro SSD. Very happy with it.

Too lazy to research the rest of the wannabe.

long time since i last came to this thread.

Still using my sandforce gskill ssd. It does degrade over time but a simple back up to another hdd. Use a program to erase everything on the ssd and then restore gives back the performance again.

anyone know how to make a ssd boot up drive meaning i boot up on ssd but my c drive is still my current hdd?
something like the seagate hybrid
planning to use this ssd
http://www.videopro.com.sg/products...cts_id=8421&osCsid=n5l6ij07ejodj7saqo9oqivc82
is it a must to reinstall on my ssd, currently using xp. i saw some people reinstall one ssd

At all time think for bootup drive is always defaults as "C" drive. You can always cloned your present HD to the SSD , providing your present HD not problem but is best to do a fresh install of the OS in the SSD.

Now the Vertex 2 of 60gb is selling at S$198 at VideoPro , consider a good price few weeks back is selling S$228 than S$208 , using 5 of it in the office for coming to two months without any problem ...think is clearing stock to make way for Vertex 3 ....

I set it on my bios. I installed Windows 7 on my SSD and F4 HDD (to compare their bootup speeds), then in my bios, I just need to switch around the order of my disk drives.

i dont understand i dont want to reinstall everything and all the drivers (that the thing) but if i clone dont think will have enf space for ssd
is there a easy method to just make transfer all the drivers and os to the ssd but the rest of the things like song and games remain?

i want link ssd and hdd together is it possible? like adding one more ssd to make it into the seagate hybrid drive

to simplify both ssd and hdd will be c drive the primary drive but boot up is done thru ssd while all the rest is thru hdd like watching moives surffing net etc
i see internet mostly is done thru raid
ps first time trying to do this sorry im also unsure maybe im wrong

just ordered a pair of G.Skill snipers 60GB for my two desktops from newegg.com via borderlinx. Works out to under S$150 per SSD.

SSDs Shifting to 25nm NAND - What You Need to Know
The storage market is seeing new technology hit the retail shelves, but for most consumers it doesn't mean faster drives or greater reliability. SSD manufacturers are starting to release drives with 25nm NAND flash, the newest type of flash memory, which is cheaper to make but offers fewer write cycles than the current-generation 34nm NAND. OCZ was the first mainstream SSD provider to shift to 25nm NAND, doing so largely in the dark - that is, unless you recently purchased a Vertex 2 or Agility 2 that was under 180GB. In that case, you may be intimately familiar with some of the "new features" of 25nm NAND and OCZ's controversial marketing decisions. But first let's take a step back....
