chances are your performance issue is due to partition alignment. try googling for ways to fix, or simply do a clean installation.

btw, maybe a comparison between before and after, or between HDD and SSD boot time can better describe the situation?

If HDD is 5 mins.. 37sec on SSD is already big improvement..

maybe some system spec description?

From what I've read on AHCI, you need to install drivers for XP first before changing the mode, or else it may not even boot.

Nor sure abt XP but even for Win 7 which supports AHCI natively, it has to be in AHCI mode BEFORE installing windows. If after install then change to AHCI, then it may not boot. The workaround is some registry tweak.

For your last question, configure SATA as "AHCI".

Please read the above and do ensure the driver is installed first and any reg tweak applied (if necessary) before changing.. be warned..

From Corsair Technical Support: Users have asked about how they will know if they are getting a drive with the fix implemented. You can tell by looking at the first four numbers above the product part number on the UPC sticker. Anything with 1122 or lower needs to be returned. Anything with 1123 or above is good new product.

just a short question: is intel's reliability worth the sacrifice of speed? I've been reading and a lot of ppl are ditching the faster M4s and Vertex 3s for Intel 320s (of course price plays a role as well but main reason cited is reliability )

I guess e difference is like 'wow', as in you really notice it unless u do side by side compare/benchmark.
But... if ur system starts giving problems..
