Hi

How much of a performance difference will I experience if I choose the Intel 320 120GB over the Crucial M4 128GB?

I understand the Intel's the most reliable but isn't exactly the fastest and is SATA2. Are the differences in performance greater than the differences in reliability?

Day-to-day use, I'd say you probably won't be able to tell a difference at all.

Speaking from experience moving from an Intel X25-M (SATA 2) to a Force GT (SATA 3)


Those extra transfer speeds really only matter if you are transferring LARGE files constantly to / from the drive; which for most part you won't be doing.

Don't forget; you're also getting a 5 year warranty with the 320 vs 3 year for the m4

You should be able to find a "FW: XXXX" on the sticker. That is the original firmware shipped with the drive.

Within OS, you can check the current firmware using the Intel Rapid Storage Technology window or using Intel's solid state drive toolbox.

However, because the latest firmware was just rolled out 2 weeks ago, I think highly unlikely that you will get a manufactured drive with the latest firmware. So just download and update.

Thanks again! I'll probably be only getting the drive in mid-Oct... Hopefully it's factory updated by then

Product of Singapore as Printed on the SSD....ship all the way to the USA than we order and ship back all the way to Singapore....why can't they just drop the price over here and save us all the time waste.
