is there any way to copy my whole C: windows partition from hdd to ssd? so that my ssd will be recognized as C: , not F: or G: ....

as suggested by porcu, i used EaseUS to clone.

After cloning and changing of the boot priority in the BIOS, it automatically recognised the new SSD as drive C:

How about SSD alignment. I read it on this thread before.
If I doing a fresh install and not cloning over, the Windows installer will do the alignment for my SSD drive right?

So what I need to do is just plug in my SSD into the CPU, see whether need to update firmware before installation and then install Windows on it right?

If I am using Windows 7 at the moment, let say I plug in the SSD into the CPU. Can I boot into my existing Windows OS first and use the Crucial Windows® 7 Updater Application to update the firmware of the SSD first, before doing the formal installation of the Windows 7 again?

How about enabling ACHI before installation? Is it necessary?

Do you guys do any SSD Optimization after installation.
I only know that I need to disable the auto defragementation and ensure TRIM is enabled.

Anything else I need to take note of?

yeah enable AHCI in bios... and dun clone yr OS to SSD... Fresh install is still the best... but if die die want to clone u need to align the SSD.. most cloning software got this function.. if u fresh install windows 7 the OS will auto align.. and defrag will auto disabled by windows...

I think mine already came with the latest firmware 000F for crucial m4 SSD. It is stated on the SSD itself. So should be the new batch ba.

By the way, if another drive contains my existing Windows, do I have to format that as well during the installation process? I am afraid that the system will not assign "Crive" to my SSD partition .

if u scare then plug out yr existing hdd (with old windows) then plug in ssd then install windows..after that then plug in yr hdd.. like this sure no problem..

sure have lar unless very old mobo.. even my 6 years old pc also has this.. it let u choose IDE or AHCI or Raid if yr mobo support it
