I will set up a IP camera at home using Raspberry Pi (just a pet project, for fun).

Is better that I have the recordings (videos or images) saved to my Synology storage or ext usb storage connected to the Synology?

I read somewhere that, this kind of high frequency writing of files is bad for the HDD. That is the reason I consider using an ext usb HDD connecting to Synology. As for the ext usb HDD, between connecting to Synology and connecting to my router usb port, does it make a difference?

Why not connect it straight to the Raspberry Pi? :s11:

Of course between the USB port on the NAS VS router, its better to connect it to the router because of the shorter route from the Raspberry pi to the storage device. I'm not sure if the raspberry pi will have enough processing power to perform this task though.

sorry sorry, I made a mistake. It should be an IP camera (cctv) by Raspberry Pi.
