Wanted to replace the hard drive for my laptop with SSD. Trouble is one last screw stuck and stripped. I couldn't get it out. Anyone know where can I send my laptop to remove the stuck screw?

Thanks,
law

The last time I stripped a screw on my laptop, I used a drill, set it on reverse to unscrew the screw. The friction created by the drill bit on reverse is actually enough to remove the screw!

runeruin, it is the screw that locks the hard disk to the body of the laptop.

Ramtree, I will give it a try.

hmm usually I thought is a tray slotted in the laptop which can be just pulled out
anyway have you tried using a plier to twist out?

You can't twist out a countersunk screw head or a rounded screw head. The best option is the electric drill with a screw bit and in reverse.

If it's stripped, then it should be just spinning freely in the slot and can be removed by tilting the casing sideways. Stripped means the screw thread is no longer available to grip the casing. So there shouldn't be a problem removing it. Unless what you mean is that the screw is very firmly stuck on the casing and you can't remove it cos it won't turn?

what I'm saying is the HDD usually is attahed to a tray'the tray and HDD is screwed together,I might be wrong for the recent popular non-removable battery kind
it could be just slotted directly to MB to save space.
and as what I know in computers manufacturer rarely use countersunk screws
if it is button head then great,it is safer to dremel out a new slot for screwdriver than reversing drill it

You want to drill out a new thread for the screw on the hard disk itself??? What was suggested above was to use the reverse function on a electric screw driver to take out the screw. To drill a new hole on the hard disk may damage the platter inside.

a new/bigger slot on screw for the screwdriver to grip the screw actually
definitely safer than drilling into the screw

I see... that may work but if it's stuck not because of a tight thread it may not work.
