Study Abroad or SIMGE ?

Most points seem to lead to getting a private Degree in singapore at SIMGE.

My Reasoning/thoughts:
-Studying in SG allows me to start learning about programming and actual computing immediately instead of doing foundation year in UK (where u learn maths, other "Back-to-A-levels-again" stuff, kinda boring) eventhough its a hassle but I'm fine with it if necessary.
-Hesitant to blow that 200k SGD as others noted

Still haven't found a solid answer that made me decide to fly to the UK to get it. So far only good sides pointed out are teaching definitely better in UK (better class,lectureres etc for price unlike private SIMGE) Good weather, fun experience. Other then that would love to hear why some would go/or not other then those things.

If you go INTO foundation, you get direct entry into year 2 of uni after the foundation year. Total 3 years only. 1 foundation + 2 uni. Total cost (school fees) is around 80k sgd for 3 years. The INTO foundation year is in sync with uni year 1 subjects from what I was told.

Hey guys I currently have a huge dilemma, I didn't do well for my poly GPA, so now I'm stuck with two choices, proceed to the UK to pursue Uni or simply go into SIMGE. Hope to hear some useful advice. I'm not applying for SUSS as the courses don't really suit me and I don't intend to study part time as well. I would prefer to study with students my age as well and experience a good Uni life if those factors were to be considered. Local U's didn't accept me if you still have realize by now hahas.

SIMGE - Basically its cheaper, I can stay in Sg with my friends/family etc. Local food. But there seems to be not much of a student life and their teaching style is mainly lectures and one exam. $38000

Uk Unis - New environment, more of a student life, has more "prestige". However I have to do a foundation year thus I have to study 4 years instead of 3 to earn a bachelors. Teaching style all rounded not bad. $200 000

If it were you what would you have chosen if you have the financial means ? Hope those that chose either path could provide some insight

Technically no. If you enquired SIM UOL are mostly lecture base with little contact time. Almost no tutorials and u go home, independent study from what I gathered. From all the forums/online/school research the DL programmes wont be of as a good quality compared to local Unis or in their own country.

May I know what you are pursuing ? I have been told its 4 years foundation being year 0. Thus 3 + 1. INTO has Manchester Uni which im interested in as well. International year one which progress into year 2 straight (3 year program) seems to be available for lower tier Unis like sussex etc.. but even the amount of Uni offering it is limited, not to mention unlike foundation, it is limited to a few majors. Most of it is asking students to get foundation year to progress into their degree of preference instead thus resulting in 4 years. (Science foundation can get into bio, computer, chem, engineering while Arts social science foundation= law, psychology etc)
Cant seem to find foundations that teahes u subjects solely based on your intended study. Most of it seems to be broad spectrum base so that once u completed it I assume it allows you to have a range of degrees u can progress into

I did my degree with SIM Manchester and I can tell you the teaching quality in SIM is much better than their on campus teaching quality... almost feel like you spend money to buy a degree over there.

INTO has international year one (proceed to year 2 after completion with required grade) for Exeter, Newcastle and Queen's Belfast. These are the higher ranked universities in the RG.

Price is definitely a consideration; so depends on family finances too.

Some points to consider:

1) Your own perception (undergraduate education is once in a lifetime; will you regret your choice at some point in your life? Or is the grass always greener on the other side?)
2) Employer perception (although it may be subtle, a pecking order may still exist in the minds of some employers?)
3) Opportunities (are there more research/internship/computing-related opportunities available to you in SIMGE or UK?)
4) Acquisition of skills (Maybe you can learn the same skillset in SIMGE at a fraction of the cost of UK, and do a semester internship too)

Thanks so much for the informative insight. I still plan on studying in the UK as it seems more viable then Canada though. Staying in the UK or coming back to SG to work does not matter to me as I'm fine with both. Computer/IT are the fields I'm looking at indeed. For SIMGE only the Uni of Wollongong seems to be accredited to Computer societies but not UOL's Computing. Not a big fan of aussie but if I'm studying in Sg it would be an IT course from either of these two. Going abroad seems to offer a better learning environment but like I mention there are still things to consider, thus more opinions from people like you are appreciated.

Yep i agree. studying abroad is more helpful! I did my own research and it paid off. I finally determined to study abroad in Aus you can check out this platform called Flying Chalks (google it, i forgot the link haha) it has helpful Uni Guides to get your research started

I think SUSS is a good option.

Students in this programme are automatically members of the Singapore Computer Society Student Chapter.

You may pursue this programme as a simple subject, or in combination with a minor as well.
