Studying in UK

Hi guys,

Im planning to study in UK and I need your guys help in giving me your opinions on the Us I have shortlisted.
My current GPA is 3.71 (tourism and business related diploma).

Im looking at business/ management/ marketing courses for these U.

1. Uni of Edinburgh
2. Durham Uni
3. Warwick Uni
4. Uni of Bath
5. Uni of York
6. Uni of Exeter

All of the above provide 3 yr courses, except for Uni of Edinburgh (4 yrs). Would you guys mind giving me your opinion on which Uni is better and will give me a better employment prospect in SG when I graduate?


**P.S. I have a slot in SMU currently for business management. However I wanted to study overseas for the exposure

Just apply for all, then choose the one that ranks the highest globally from all your received offers.

Else, I suggest you stay with SMU business management. Then apply to go overseas immersion every winter and summer vacation. You can also choose to do student exchange during semesters.

if U can get into warwick and dont care about ROI ok.
if U seek overseas exposure, just stay in SMU and go exchange for 2 terms.

Out of your list, I would say Warwick is your best option. Edinburgh and Durham are equally good but most courses at Edinburgh are 4 years. Durham is a very nice University but the business courses are run at Stockton and not the main Queen's campus.

Bath is a fantastic university as well with very good graduate prospects due to most of its programmes requiring you to do a year in industry.

York and Exeter - Meh. If you're considering the likes of Warwick, Edinburgh, don't bother with York or Exeter, their overall reputation and prestige pales in comparison.

Maybe you could consider Manchester or Bristol instead.

UK Psych?

Hi!

I'm actually looking to do my university in UK as well and i'm all for getting a degree in psych/communications. Looking at the comments about eg University of Exeter and it's prestige, I'm hoping to get some advices regarding what other schools would be good besides Exeter (since i was kind of set on applying for exeter).

My other thoughts were to apply to EU universities eg Universiteit Uretch, to take up their liberal arts courses where i can do both Psych & Communications.

Btw, I'm an A level Student w ADD/AB grades.

if you're looking at internal ranking, it's

Warwick > Durham > Bath > Exeter > York

On international outlook, Warwick is your best bet! Cheers

Actually, Manchester isn't performing well in national rankings.

GPA 3.7 got into SMU thinking of manchester... again do hard on trying to go overseas studies?

for me yes.

Maybe. But if it doesn't put more fundings into researches, then it might not get ranked in QS or Times. SMU is gaining higher research reputation in Economics/Finance through employing some of the renowned researchers. I don't see UniSIM doing that. UniSIM operates more like the UOLIP than OU - OU does at least have some decent researches done. So, I think it's hard. Anyway, I think SMU is ranked in QS subject ranking for Business & Management Studies.

Actually, I was thinking whether being unranked in QS or Times is a good thing for UniSIM, rather than it being ranked at, say, 300-500th. I guess not, as it seems that many people are relying on such international rankings to the extend that as long as a university is ranked, however low it is, the university is better than unranked universities.

Is it really true that being ranked in QS is better than being unranked?

Srinakharinwirot University is ranked top 300 university in Asia. UniSIM is unranked. Is Srinakharinwirot University better? Maybe? Maybe not? In Cambridge's eyes, it seems not.

It seems like Cambridge doesn't accept graduates from Srinakharinwirot University in that list, while they do accept graduates from UniSIM although the requirement is higher than NUS/NTU.

But maybe many would take reference from QS and consider Srinakharinwirot University as a better university than UniSIM. I would not jump into conclusion without looking into more details.

Just apply for all, then choose the one that ranks the highest globally from all your received offers.

Else, I suggest you stay with SMU business management. Then apply to go overseas immersion every winter and summer vacation. You can also choose to do student exchange during semesters.

I second that, except for the ranking part. Since you are looking for exposure, what intime has suggested could also give you the exposure, unless you mean a longer stay like a year or more. I disagree with the ranking part as I don't think that just because Edinburgh ranked higher than Bath in the overall ranking (and both universities ranked within 51-100 for Business & Management Studies) in QS, it means that it is better for you to choose Edinburgh over Bath. There should be more to consider. Moreover, rankings do change, as years go by. But what you learned and experienced stays with you.

I think depend on what u want... If u eventually want to work in sg then SMU. Warwick for staying on and working in the UK.
