SMU exchange not good enough to experience studying overseas?

UK have exchange partner with bath. TS just want to limit to experiencing UK? What's so outstanding about experiencing UK?

I think so too. Maybe some people in Singapore didn't know Warwick.

U only need the hiring person to know
Again knowing does not get one the job is how one perform in the interview. It's not like 1990s grad from Stanford or Oxbridge no need interview, the phone call is compensation negotiations

The reason why I wanted to go overseas and reject SMU is because of the years required. SMU courses take 4 years while overseas uni will take 3 years only (or even 2, w exemptions).

4 years is a long time and I'm currently serving NS. By the time I ORD and graduate from SMU, I will at least be 26. Hence, time is a huge consideration.

Why UK? Because I am a fan of BPL and during summer break, I can travel around Europe w ease. Another thing is due to the Singaporean community in UK.

Yup, I mean hiring person.

Agree on the performance in interview. However, if hiring people do not know Warwick, s/he may not even grant an interview.

I was wondering that too. Places like US, Germany or France may also be fine.

If cost not an issue, then go to warwick lor. But you have to keep in mind that the cost of education in Warwick is significantly higher than SMU, and also, if you really want to experience overseas life, exchange will do.

But, if money is no object, by all means, go to Warwick. Its a pretty good university

Maybe. But if it doesn't put more fundings into researches, then it might not get ranked in QS or Times. SMU is gaining higher research reputation in Economics/Finance through employing some of the renowned researchers. I don't see UniSIM doing that. UniSIM operates more like the UOLIP than OU - OU does at least have some decent researches done. So, I think it's hard. Anyway, I think SMU is ranked in QS subject ranking for Business & Management Studies.

Actually, I was thinking whether being unranked in QS or Times is a good thing for UniSIM, rather than it being ranked at, say, 300-500th. I guess not, as it seems that many people are relying on such international rankings to the extend that as long as a university is ranked, however low it is, the university is better than unranked universities.

Is it really true that being ranked in QS is better than being unranked?

Srinakharinwirot University is ranked top 300 university in Asia. UniSIM is unranked. Is Srinakharinwirot University better? Maybe? Maybe not? In Cambridge's eyes, it seems not.

It seems like Cambridge doesn't accept graduates from Srinakharinwirot University in that list, while they do accept graduates from UniSIM although the requirement is higher than NUS/NTU.

But maybe many would take reference from QS and consider Srinakharinwirot University as a better university than UniSIM. I would not jump into conclusion without looking into more details.

For me personally, the criteria i set for myself is a little stricter, either a singapore university or top 200 university on QS/THE.

I guess it will take time for UniSIM to stock up on researchers & quality research to be ranked globally, consider that is it only 10 years old. Perhaps one day in the future SMU, SUTD, SIT and UniSIM will appear in QS/THE "Under 50" charts.

It is encouraging to see that SMU has made progress recently, their MBA managed to rank 21 in QS Top MBA Asia & ranked for their Masters in Finance on FT.

I think it really depends on the universities' efforts to articulate their degrees to other universities and strengthen their curriculum to meet global standards. A lazy university is definitely not doing justice to their graduates.

I have a different criteria but that's besides the point of discussion.

SMU started around same period as UniSIM, but end up rather differently. SMU has stronger support from government. There are now more support for UniSIM, but I think still got have much differences.
