Hi! I currently have a AudioEngine HD3 setup. I’m thinking of getting a subwoofer to compliment it. I’m looking the basic range such as Yamaha NS-SW050 or Wharfedale WH-S8E. Or should I wait and up my Budget a bit? Main usage is for computer.

U need to get a subwoofer with crossover adjustment knob and probably phase switch. Yamaha ns050 dont have I think. But the wharfedale has it. May be wise to download instruction manuals and read before u buy.

What benedium said. And based on the measured frequency response of the HD3 below, crossover is probably around 100-120hz? Dunno if the subwoofer connection is already filtered or not.

If you want to go a bit further and fix any bass boominess that's sure to have in Singapore rooms, and since you're on pc, you can download peach equalizer to do so:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/peace-equalizer-apo-extension/

You can use wwenze's test tones to play and eq by ear. If instead of the tones getting steadily softer, one tone suddenly becomes very loud and HUUMMMS, that's the frequency to reduce in your room. Can have more than one.

Wharfedale sub 8-10 inch will do for your budget, $350 how loud also wont shake anything like those 2-3k 15-18 inch sub, a real sub not about shaking it the punch and dip to below 20hz..

Like my setup i also never make my house shake also, its can be calibrate to listen at your surrounding area.

Hi, do you know of any repair shop that can fix my SVS SB12 amp? My amp just died. I read your review for Starke SW12 and there's a shop in Eunos offering trade-in for my dead sub at $700 with 1 year warranty. Is it a good deal or do you think its better to upgrade to SVS SB2000 pro or SB3000 instead?

Thanks for your advice

KEC represents SVS, so that should be your first port of call.
You should listen to the new SVS subs and decide for yourself. I've not listened to them before.
Cheers

Hi gurus,
Any ideas about low profile home subwoofers (below 20cm height)? For example I googled Dayton Audio SUB-1000L which is 15cm high but seems not available in SG.

Hi Pros out there,
I would like to request for a Subwoofer Recommendations. Price around $500-600

Usage : For PC. Music
Room size is Small (HDB Bedroom)

Currently, I have an old Subwoofer I gotten about 6 years ago from Taobao for $80. It's a Nobsound SW-80.

The subwoofer is really bad. For context, this is the measurement. It doesn't go low at all.

It is currently paired with my desktop system of a Loxjie A30 Amp + ELAC Uni-Fi 2.0 UB52.

The ELACs (Blue line) are really good and matches my target response (White-Harman). With added SW-80 Subwoofer, it does sound better but already rolled off around 60hz. I would like to have more bass extension with a new Subwoofer.

Currently looking at ELAC Debut 2.0 S10.2 Subwoofer to replace my Taobao sub. Is there any better choice? Thank you for your input!

(I plan to upgrade my Amp to an integrated amp sometime end of year)

PS: FR curves recorded on behringer interface+BM8000 measurement mic, It is not accurate at higher frequencies.

I did not test a lot of subwoofers around your price range, but I remember being impressed by Minime P8. It’s just slightly more expensive at almost $700. There’s also Santorin 21 at around $500+ that I am currently using. It’s not as punchy but blends very well with speakers and very enjoyable for music. I love it but may not be to your taste.

My suggestion would be to check out Lazada or Shopee then go down to showrooms to test. Subwoofer choice could be very personal. Some people prefer boom box type, some people prefer the neutral more range extension type.

Thanks! Minime by Earthquake looks promising. Sealed design like that would give tight punchy bass instead of boomy. Good for music!

I would prefer neutral, more extension type that's tight. go below 40hz at least....

Spend more and get the SVS SB 1000 pro. The app itself is more the extra outlay

You can always trade efficiency for bass extension. Set your sub volume way higher such that its 40Hz matches your speakers or your target curve, then let EQ do the job.

wah. overkill for me. 12", in HDB Bedroom, sure will cause chaos. Already have a Klipsch SPL-120 in the living room and I know what that thing can do...
Also, price point wise, Subwoofer will cost more than my bookshelf and amp combined, lol.
I just want something simple to match my current desktop setup. 8" to 10" (due to space constraints under the desk too!). Currently looking at both ELAC Debut 10.2 ($550) or Polk HTS 10 ($599). I wonder which one's a good match. Mainly for listening to music.

I tried adjusting higher volume and combined with Peace to try flatten the Frequency response of Subwoofer. The cheap crap is so bad, it gets distorted at that point. Sounds terrible,

At your price range a bit difficult, I remembered when I auditioned subwoofer, only those above 1K price range sounded more neutral and made speakers sound fuller, like for example Elac 2030. SVS SB-1000 I didn't really like, but I know a lot of people like it. Try the Santorin 21, can listen at either Kec Sound or Sonic Sound. Original price more than 1K, but it has since been discontinued so can get damn cheap.

Ya, can understand it is hard to recommend if you have not heard of the particular model.

I am definitely asking in the wrong forum. Not an audiophile or for home theatre. I am just using my system as budget friendly computer speakers which in-need of a budget friendly subwoofer. I'll wait for sale and go with something around $500 or $600 that is value for money. Sadly, not many people review subwoofers and finding reviews for them is hard.
