Realme offers better value than Xiaomi now for certain ranges.

Realme 5 can be a good choice for old folks, big screen, 5000mA battery. S$199 for 3GB/64GB local set from Challenger. CPU is SD665, way better than SD439 of Redmi 8.

For old folks, Color OS is actually easier and no ads is better than MIUI which got ads and may confuse old folks.

I got Oppo R11S for my mum in law in 2017 and Huawei Nova 3i for my dad in law in 2019 (he wanted Huawei). They are in their 70s and have no issues using Android phones since 2015 (Oppo R7 and Vivo X5 SD615 phone).

But recently I got a Realme 5 S$199 3GB/64GB for my kids (to replace the dead Mi Max 1) and my parents in law think it is good enough for them too (mainly photo taking, WeChat and Xiami Music).

I got Xiaomi Max 1 in early 2017 for my kids and the phone spoiled last month due to bloat battery, making it the shortest life span phone for all my smart phones purchased since 2012.

In fact all my phones bought since 2015 (4 iPhones and 6 Android phones including the dead Mi Max) are still working except this Mi Max. The Oppo R7 and Vivo X5 are not used now due to low storage (16GB) and WeChat needs a lot of storage. But they are still in perfect working condition.
