Suggestion for bendgate

I have not seen anyone providing a viable solution as yet except maybe to use a casing. So here goes...

Maybe not a solution but suggestion for bendgate. Use a different alloy material. Like what I did on mine. In any case, it's a bit late for them to undo the production chain now.

No doubt that aluminium is the cheapest and the most abundant metal to be found on this planet. However, the alloy series that they have chosen is hardly the strongest around. There are different grades of aluminium alloy, with the strongest one known to be made by the Japanese whom happens to make the best blade around as well. 6 families in Japan still makes tamahagane the traditional way if I remember correctly. They choose the 6000 series because it is the easiest to machine. They can use this alloy for their other products but not the iPhone 6 which is far too thin in its design. Reinforcing the weak spot with titanium is not a good solution either and it shows that they knew there is a problem. They should have use a different alloy composite for the chassis altogether since they are not ready to mass produce with other methods nor with different materials such as liquidmetal. Somewhere in between the 6000 and 7000 series would be good. I would suggest that any companies that mass produce chassis body to have a look at how the Japanese make their sword. Brittle on the outside and yet ductile within.

Remember, a chain is only as strong as its weakness link which clearly what bendgate is all about.

hi, can you elaborate on what alloy you used? and what exactly did you do to your iphone?

my friend has one.. and it doesn't seem as flimsy as what people out there make it to be.. As long as you don't deliberately twist and turn it, it should be fine... And if you wear skinny jeans... make sure you are a skinny person... if not...

Indeed. There are a lot of story writers on this thread but unfortunately I only know how to write facts or experiments that can be repeated, not fairy tales like some of those down here.

FYI my iPhone 7 is made of diamond. Sure won't break!

iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will go down in history as the weakest iPhone ever made by Apple, geometrically and in material science. (And the number that it is associated with ain't exactly the holiest one of them all, especially in Egypt where it origins)

Being among the first to own both the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, it didn't take long to figure out there is a problem and it became clear that the sapphire display is meant more than just for scratch resistance.

It is good to use the Japanese blade as example. Just that the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus happens to be that piece of ductile metal within the blade or what is commonly known as shinganae. Understand this and your regular iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will remain straight, as long as the phone is functional, although it might pose a slight problem on the NFC feature.

After doing some reading my suggestion is to put the phone in your pocket upside down. Since the weakest spot is where the volume button is, placing it in your pocket with the volume button closer to the top (meaning lightning connector facing down) will catch it at its weakest spot when you bend down or sit.

So just leave it in your pocket lightning connector facing up, this will avoid the weakest spot. Just my 2cent.

I just curious in Singapore how many ppl are reported their iPhone 6 Plus got bendgate problem...

With the current designs, it is quite obvious that it would be difficult to strengthen the structure integrity of the phone geometrically. The other aspects of it would be through material selection like liquidmetal which the sim eject tool is made out of and it is definitely not as easy to bend that small piece of metal as compare to the aluminum 6003 alloy of same size and shape.

I'm pretty sure that Apple would be changing the material used on the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus soon to an alloy of much stronger nature. Time will tell.
