I have not seen anyone providing a viable solution as yet except maybe to use a casing. So here goes...
Maybe not a solution but suggestion for bendgate. Use a different alloy material. Like what I did on mine. In any case, it's a bit late for them to undo the production chain now.
No doubt that aluminium is the cheapest and the most abundant metal to be found on this planet. However, the alloy series that they have chosen is hardly the strongest around. There are different grades of aluminium alloy, with the strongest one known to be made by the Japanese whom happens to make the best blade around as well. 6 families in Japan still makes tamahagane the traditional way if I remember correctly. They choose the 6000 series because it is the easiest to machine. They can use this alloy for their other products but not the iPhone 6 which is far too thin in its design. Reinforcing the weak spot with titanium is not a good solution either and it shows that they knew there is a problem. They should have use a different alloy composite for the chassis altogether since they are not ready to mass produce with other methods nor with different materials such as liquidmetal. Somewhere in between the 6000 and 7000 series would be good. I would suggest that any companies that mass produce chassis body to have a look at how the Japanese make their sword. Brittle on the outside and yet ductile within.
Remember, a chain is only as strong as its weakness link which clearly what bendgate is all about.
