Dear all,

So my Diablo3 rig starting to show signs of lag during raids(MMORPG) when everyone throwing skill. Its starting to get on my nerves and as a result i dont enjoy gaming anymore.. Didnt do enough dps to warrant rewards from miniboss due to freezing/lagging. Therefore, exploring the idea of building a new PC.

Of course, i do not have a big budget to blow.. Keeping it under 2k ( Tower alone )
Usage is the casual gaming of Dota 2, MMORPG and sometimes Witcher 3, GTA 5 and perhaps final fantasy 15 in the near future ?

CUrrently looking at a RGB build similar to this, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ikWSICd4mE Main focus is purely aethestics + gaming

Been to Sim Lim these days, almost built a pc until the whole simlim ran out of stock for the ram i wanted ( Corsair Dominator PLat DDR4 3000mhz)

From my research it seems only the higher tier Asus MB ( Hero ALPHA & boards with RGB header ) able to do SYNC rgb lightning with pc cases and gpus. The rest of the MB is just standalone RGB. Anyone care to input ? Since RGB is pretty new in the market, should i for now build a budget computer and then when RGB is more matured, till then I build up a better rig ?

Never thought about OC, but perhaps after this build might look into it. Not really in a rush to build this but after reading some of the threads, forumers have been advising to wait for KABYLAKE ? Even though its skylake now, haswell prices hasnt been dropping much though. Will we see similar trend ?

Looking at the following :

Asus Maximus Hero Alpha w/ i5 6600k / 6700k ?
PSU : 750X
GPU : Asus 1070 Strix
Ram : 2x8GB Corsair Dominator Plat DDR4 3000mhz
CPU Cooler : NZXT Kraken x52
Case : Jonsbo UMX4
SSD : Samsung SSD
HDD : Using my old HDD from my previous rig.

Thanks for your attention !

Hi,

I think it's nice to be able to sync RGB LED lights with your motherboards, CPU fans and GPUs, but if you are doing that, then you might be severely restricting yourself to a handful of hardware and CPU parts options available to you. And higher tier motherboards cost a lot more for a handful of extra features that you might not need or use in the end. It's all about diminishing returns.

Personally, I don't feel the need to synchronise your RGB lighting under one controller.

There are so many case fans with RGB LED from Corsair, Thermaltake and even NZXT. NZXT has the HUE+ that can combine and control LED RGB strips and their AER LED RGB case fans together.

The options and combinations are limitless when you consider that RGB are in GPU, CPU AIO cooler, case fans and even RAM.

You might also want to consider the overall colour of your build, rather than how many RGB LED customisations you can achieve. For example, the colour theme of your motherboard (Do you want a white/black theme? or Red/Black Theme?) Do you want to get custom cables that matches with your overall theme? How about the colour of your case?

With regards to Kabylake, performance gains have shown that it won't be substantial (at most 10% on average over Skylake, so you won't lose our much if you get Skylake now. Current motherboard will eventually support Kabylake with a BIOS update, but even then, you can always overclock your CPU if you are getting a 6700K to get extra performance down the road. And since you are looking at NZXT Kraken X52, you can consider getting 6700K.

I also notice that you are considering getting a 750W PSU. Can get a 650W instead, GOLD efficiency, save some money.

Asus's RGB support is what they call Asus Aura, but not all RGB LED Strips nor cases / RGB fans support it.

Best is to just get Maximus Hero, get a dedicated RGB strip and get a case like corsair 460x RGB and add on with more corsair rgb fans with the built in rgb controller.

Thanks guys for your input ! That PSU is a beauty ! too bad it will be shrouded in my intended case ( Jonsbo UMX4 )

I am looking into other options if not going with asus... i though the z170 board would have the features but it's just RGB on its own with no ability to sync with an ASUS mobo.

My theme would be Metal/Platinum, which is why im going with UMX 4 Silver Case, with corsair Platinums Rams. Any good local place that does cable sleeves in grey/white/black ?

If not going asus, i might be going MSI Krait, 6700k, pair with a zotac 1070amped ( becos of LED ), and like u guys suggested, using nzxt HUE.

after much thinking, i feel that the motherboard wont be lighted up as much, as since i have nzxt AIO cooler for the rgb lightining, i can zhng my dominator rams with light bars. If im going for the full METAL look, den the h100i cooler is a good choice too......

now im so confused :D:D

appreciate some input that can steer me to make a decision.

oh pls if u want metal/platinum. titanium is about the same as well.

introducing Z170A XPOWER GAMING TITANIUM EDITION

yes Corsair H100i does have the metal look as well.

zotac amp or amp extreme also, evga can consider.

SSD can get crucial or OCZ as well. (metal casing)

I have considered inwin as well as phanteks before but i fell in love with the umx4

current dilemna is either i go full force asus rgb sync, with 1070 strix.

or i go budget and wait out for more rgb options with msi board either krait or pro carbon with zotac gpu.

any idea where to get custom sleeved cables locally?

I have the Asus maximus 8 formula. Which is one of the few boards with full rgb including headers. It definitely needs some refinement as syncing via Asus aura isn't always that reliable. Sometimes the logo and the other leds go out of sync. It's definitely too early to try for a full rgb built.

If you going for static color, definitely. But cycling through colors? Definitely out of sync

thanks guys. i have decided to build a budget comp to last 2-3yrs before going into my dream rgb build when it is more stable and more variety to choose from.

Will go for NZXT x52 kraken and hue+ to hlep with my rgb. Might add on LED fans to see how it fares.
