Suggestions for roaming friendly mobile line

Hi all,

Would like help in recommending a mobile plan for someone who spends half the week in malaysia & getting quite a bit of roaming calls.

I have a friend who spends 3-4 days a week in malaysia. He is nt so savvy & often incurs $50 in roaming charges. Not that much but since he is not well off, it does impact him.

MyRepublic mobile plan seems suitable since with the app, the roaming charges are quite cheap.

Any others?

I had a look at RedOne but it seems that only calls made from Sg to My can use the free minutes whereas my friend do make quite a bit of calls when he is in Malaysia too.

MyRepublic got MyRepublicTalk App to divert call and can answer incoming call via app with data. This save a lot from roaming calls.

It does seem that this is the best option, but just need to make sure I dont miss any operators

I am worried about reliability of MYR service though. Was reading the thread on MYR MVNO and some people mention experiencing poor speeds & connectivity

If you got landline, u can use voice bridge for landline. U call out using the app which connect to your home landline to make the call. If anyone call your landline, the app will also ring. All these feature are using data.

oooo, I didnt know such a thing exists. But I think a mobile line is simpler.

If your friend is not savvy and not well off to afford the roaming charges, he should not be making or answering roaming calls.

Why can’t he use a local Malaysia SIM card when he is over there? He should be using WhatsApp or WeChat calls instead of talk time

i always prefer to use the local sim card of the country i gg ..

safer to me cos no need to worry being over charged by international roaming charges etc

Call from singapore will have to pay for IDD if they call the your local sim from other country. And you will need to update people who want to call you with the number.
