Suica card availablity

Anyone recently been to Tokyo able to purchase the normal Suica card from the machine at the JR East stations?

News of IC shortage resulting in Suica card unavailability was last year, not sure of current status.

I believe it's back in stock. Was able to purchase a few months back at Yamagata (JR East).

There was a poster at the JR service centers at Tokyo Station, with confusing message about the availability. Also, most of the time got queue, so didn't confirm with the counter staff.

Won't know till you get there as situation can change especially during popular travel period.

There's the visitor suica or pasmo available. Valid for 28 days.

Was there in mid-May, it was not available, only Welcome Suica with 1 month validity. But if you are in Kansai area, Icoca is still available.

Important Note: As of March 2024, JR East has restarted sales of Suica cards to tourists at JR East Travel Service Centers at Narita and Haneda airports, and the following train stations: Tokyo, Ueno, Ikebukuro, Shibuya and Shinagawa. Sales are limited to one per person and you must show your passport and tourist visa. Payment is in cash only. Thus, those without iPhones arriving in Tokyo will have another option for getting an IC card. This program could end at any time, so always have a Plan B.

but still need to link to Apple Pay?
unless they update their Felica reader to accept standard NFC that rest of the world uses, i think still impossible for Android to have mobile suica.

This Welcome Suica Mobile app will be in English and accept foreign credit cards linked to Apple Pay, unlike the current Mobile Suica app that's only in Japanese and accepts only selected foreign cards.
