Hi all! I want to get Suica card, but am I only able to get it in Japan? Am I able to download the app and buy it over the app right now when i'm in Singapore?

The Suica app is all in Japanese hence I would appreciate any useful inputs.

Thanks! :)

Actually you can get the Pasmo card (the suica equivalent) at the airport.
The last trip when I landed at Haneda airport, I purchased it just before I boarded the train at the airport.
Very easy.
There will be a staff at the tourism section just after you exit the restricted area. She can speak English and you can ask which way to go to buy the card.

The staff selling the card will ask you how much you wanna top up.
10000 yen would be a reasonable amount if you are going to be there for about 1 week.
Subsequently the card can be easily topped up by cash at any station.
You can select English when you top up.

In the big cities like Tokyo and Osaka, the people can speak some English, so don't worry too much.
You can get by easily even if you don't speak a word of Japanese.

Thanks!! But because i'm trying to earn miles from Apple Pay transactions (8mpd using Citibank CC, before 31st July), by topping up Suica card.

I've been to Japan several times but not used any prepaid cards before. Always by CC or cash.

In case anyone is curious :D http://milelion.com/2018/05/04/here...izing-your-8-mpd-with-citibank-and-apple-pay/

10k yen is quite a lot if u are just travelling within the city. topping-up is easy, so maybe just start with 3000yen or 5000yen. if u need to spend that much within the city, maybe can consider getting a metro pass instead.

i spent less than 5000yen for a week of travelling within tokyo.

it is a 2000yen card, so around $25. but yah, still expensive. coz it is easily available and can get from most major stations through their automated machine. so i dun see the point of getting it in sg

Note that there is a charge of 220 yen for return of a suica card.

Try to use the card to zero, so that you can get a full refund of 500 yen and not have to get 220 yen deducted.

So many shops accept it so just spend it down on the last days if you are not as frequent a traveler like AHSS. :D
