I recently built a new system with a 5800x and B550 Tomahawk and am using a Noctua NH-U12A. Case is a Phanteks P600S with 3x140mm front intake Phanteks fans and 1x120mm rear exhaust fan, and front solid panel opened to expose the mesh face.
Stock CPU config, temps were about 87C in Cinebench R23 multi-core. I reduced the PPT/EDC/TDC following the general suggestions in the TPU forums (
TPU link) and made some changes with the Curve Optimizer in the BIOS. Now, max temps in CBR23 are 71-72 C. ** score has also gone up by a few points to 15,344. While playing around with the CO, I could drop the temps down to the high 60s(and higher CB23 MC scores) and the system seemed to be stable under 1-2 days of stress testing (P95, OCCT, Corecycler etc) but I backed off the offsets a bit just to avoid potential surprises down the line when idling or under low load.
Under normal gaming load (AC Valhalla maxed out at 1440p), it rarely exceeds 65 C..usually hovers around 59-65 C. All fans are set to ramp up such that upto about 65C there is hardly any noise from the system discernable above the ambient noise of my ceiling and stand fans.
I was considering the Arctic Cooling LF series of AIOs, but decided to finally settle on the fit-and-forget NH-U12A instead for my computing usage patterns.
