I'm putting together a simple list because I'm interested in renting one. I used bmobile's sim card last time, but I noticed, during busy periods like Comiket, you may be unable to get any signal or data at all for hours where the human concentration is high, like Tokyo Big Sight. That's why I'm considering this one, but I don't know if it'll face the same problems.

econnect
Typical rate: 10 days 6860y (Downlink: 7.2 Mbps / Uplink: 5.8 Mbps (Best Effort))
Capacity: Unlimited Data
Delivers to: No delivery charges. no delivery to haneda
Additional charges: includes prepaid return envelope

global advance
Typical rate: 10 days 6600y (21mbps)
Capacity: unlimited data
Delivers to: Hotel, Residences, Many airports (Delivery to Haneda 1220y)
Additional charges: Includes prepaid return envelope

japan wireless
Typical rate: 10 days 4950y (21mbps)
Capacity: unlimited data
Delivers to: Narita, Kansai, Chubu airport, Hotels. Does not deliver to Haneda or residences
Additional charges: 500y delivery charge. Includes prepaid return envelope
Free spare battery

It looks like Japan Wireless is the cheapest, but you're out of luck if you're arriving at Haneda.

Interesting. I am considering bmobile primarily because I am only bringing along my phone. Dun have to on/off the mobile wifi and then connect my phone to it.

But having 2nd thoughts now that you mentioned about the connectivity. How is your holistic experience with bmobile?

Whats the battery life like on these devices? Could they last like a 8-10hrs each charge?

For bmobile's SIM, I used twice. Once at winter comiket at tokyo big sight where there are thousands of people there. Could get a signal outside near the train station, but once you get in range of the building, it was very hard to get any signal at all. Could only get enough of a connection to check email once at something like 2 hour intervals.

Used again in May in the open, around tokyo, kamakura, okutama, and there were no issues then. But I feel that 3g access is slow, that's why I'm looking at mifi now.

For those who used global advance's router, is it charged by a standard USB cable? Is it the tiny connector or the regular sized one?

It's not the regular sized, I forgot but it should be either mini/micro USB. Shouldn't be an issue since they also provide the cable (10cm length) and USB wall charger.

eConnect has a return envelop with no extra delivery and return charges.

Edit it add: the free extra battery can last another 6 hours at least ( Panasonic) but I plug it directly into my external battery and let it run. At the end of the day, I still have more than 50% juice left

so still OK even if it mini or micro USB since u can use portable mobile charger to charge the mifi even if the battery life is short

i have to use global advanced coz they are the only ones who deliver to haneda
but their delivery charge is 1220y, not cheap. I don't plan to rent their spare battery, I want to use my own power pack, so I need to know the usb port type. They give a charger but the cable may not be detachable from the charger, and I'll only find out when I arrive and collect it.
