surface pro 4 swollen

There has been some weird symptoms on my microsoft notebook surface pro 4 since several months ago for instance, display is trembling, burning-like yellow spot appeared on the screen.
Today while I am using it, all of a sudden I sighted that surface pro 4 is spontaneously swollen so I immediately turned it off the moment I noticed it.
A crack made because of it between display and its frame is big enough to see inside the notebook.
Is there anybody experienced this kind of phenomenon on surface notebook and have replaced with although out of warrenty.
I wonder if I can use it onwards in fearing of explosion.
Thanks

Re

If it's still within warranty then go and change it

If warranty already over then no point repairing it.

Get a new device lah

Contact surface support and see what they can do for you :)

A out of warranty replacement from Microsoft is approximately $800

Will do.

I found an encouraging article posted in other country forum, which is same case of mine.
The writter posted that Microsoft service centre delivered new one to the customer first although it is out of warranty saying that harmful is harmful asking to send back the swollen one when received thereafter.
I wonder if microsoft service centre here also deals this case separately from warranty period.

Thanks for advices.

Sent two Surfaces back to Microsoft before.

Chatting with the agent on chat with the Microsoft Surface support page will present the opportunity for you to send pictures for them to conduct level 1 diagnostics and support.

They will advise you accordingly on procedures on sending it back. A courier from SingPost - Microsoft’s courier partner will contact you to arrange a suitable time will and collect it from your door step.

Before doing anything, you you will be given a shipping label of sorts and be required to package the Surface in a box. Since yours is a special case with what I suspect is most definitely an inflated battery, you would have to get specific postage / handling instructions from Microsoft.

Advice to get this specific instruction is also stated on the shipping label that is sent to your email.

Following which it will be collected, given a tracking number, and a refurb unit returned to you.

Note that there isn’t a physical service centre to personally send your Surface to. Everything is done via the support page.

Will do.

If the battery is swollen, DO NOT use it anymore. The battery is faulty, and it is not funny when a lithium battery explodes.

Even if it is out of warranty, I will still submit and RMA in this case. A swollen battery is not supposed to happen in the first place. This could potentially be a bad batch of battery/ device.

Yes definitely.
Personal experience with Microsoft’s techs are nothing but positive. They might probably make an exception as well.

May be difficult as the Surface Pro line is inherently not designed to be serviceable outside of Microsoft. And then if you've enabled device encryption, hopefully you have access to your key as well to be able to use the data if it is able to be retrieved.

I'm having the same problem now with my MS SP4. The battery has bloated. I just shut it off and leave it there.

Not changing or upgrading since it's an old machine leow. Likely will throw away later

My MS SP3 still going strong

:s8:

Like what one of the earlier posters say, you need to contact Microsoft support for this issue.

They will help but you have to really be persistent.

Based off my own experience I unfortunately had 2 surface devices with a bloated battery problem, both occurring about a year after usage.

IMHO, these devices are not meant to be plugged in constantly, in their pursuit for form factor Microsoft seems to have gone for slim but poor quality batteries. Caveat Emptor! For all future surface buyers. Note as well that my devices were the surface book and surface laptop.

Book was out of warranty but they replaced with a refurbished unit.

Laptop was within warranty, just barely in fact, and they replaced with refurbished unit as well.

Again you have to jump through some hoops, be persistent in trying to get support. You will be asked to provide pictures to show the bloated battery problem as well as the serial number of the device.

Good luck!

I have a surface book 1st generation. Still working but heat problem - need to have a fan blowing at it even when doing simple task. I think over 6 years already so still ok bah.

For surface I tot best to buy from Harvey Norman etc stores that offer add on for extended warranty since it is not really repairable. So that u can get back something in future within the 3 years if it spoil (highly likely).
