Question about Canvas Assignment (SCO157)

Has anyone seen the assignments uploaded on Canvas yet? I'm majoring in Marketing and one of the general modules is SCO157 Empathy and Reflection. According to its assignment descriptor, students are sorted into groups of maximum 5 members and will not be graded individually.

The descriptor states that "each group is required to log into Canvas to participate in a discussion board" and that we should "post [our] comments/views/observations, etc" which should be a minimum of 300 words anytime before 30 July.

But because we have never met our groupmates before and have no way to communicate with them directly, the descriptor actually means that we each make our own posts directly answering Question 1 in the descriptor, right? :s11: After which the Professor might sum up the grades for each student and average the total between the group members??

Sorry for the long post. Just pretty confused about the descriptor ><

Hi would just like to check if anybody know when can we choose the minor course that we want? For those degrees which comes with a minor. :)

I think won't be so soon. Probably like after at least one semester or year two then can start to choose the minor courses. I think the first year is more about focusing on your major (core modules). Because I saw it somewhere that there might be interviews or other procedures that we will need to go through for them to approve any minor course we choose. And probably GPA (for year one or previous semester) will sort of be a factor that they will consider for the choice of the minor course :)

Thats just what I think hahahaa not sure if its accurate of not tho! :)

Just checked my canvas. Mine is SCO "why do good" (different from yours). Don't have any important assignments or grp work for mine (yet). But apparently theres a Pre-course quiz for that course that need to be done before 30 July.

Can I check if the group discussion is actually related to the materials? Thanks!

depends on the flow. But I recommend reading something on local context as my group got taken by surprise

Honestly, just say something that you thought deeply and clearly about. Its not a competition to talk first or talk the most. These are the people that get marked down. SUSS' curriculum primarily functions as a seminar or discussion not some debate club.

Yes it helps to initiate the conversations as usually there are awkward silences but after that exhibit your ability to continue a discussion or display tact when giving an opposing opinion.

I talked once in the whole group interview. I was simply waiting to inject things said by others.

Just wondering if a health check up is required for SUSS? Didn’t see it in the matriculation booklet, does it mean it’s not a requirement?

Ermm i think depends on the course? I got into early childhood and have to go take vaccine + xray all those (when they send me the letter of offer by mail).

I'm in Marketing as well but I don't see that module in my canvas. Instead, I only have one general module which is SCO201 SPACE, PLACE, PEOPLE AND THE CITY which require a pre-course assessment in the form of a short essay (100 words).

Hmm... I'm not sure how SUSS sorts us into these general modules. Maybe we're from a different class within the same course? :s11:

After signing in to Canvas, you should see two links for SCO157 in the "Courses" or "Dashboard" section. One link states "SCO157_JUL18_LGXX", the other states "SCO157_JUL18_TGXX". Click on the link that says TG, and select the category "Files". I found the descriptors there!

Btw, have you also been assigned the module SCO111 (Reasoning Like a Sceptic)? These are the 2 general modules I'm taking haha.
