Hi Guys,

I have received an offer to study bachelor of accountancy at SUSS which is a 5 years work study programme or bachelor of commerce at monash university which is a 2 year 8 months programme. Im not sure which is better and which offer should I take up.

Pls advice. Thanks!

what is your definition of better?

with monash are U doing accounting? can assume cost is not an issue?
are u paying for a opportunity to move to OZ as PR?
SUSS iirc is a honors degree, your monash program isn't.
U going for CPA or ACCA?

work/study or PT is not easy, ppl argue cost more u will study harder in OZ getting better grades. studying locally cheap one is not motivated for good grades.

hey patryn33,

yes am doing accounting in monash. Cost might be a little tight and i dont really want to rely on my parents. Hmm, its not exactly working and studying at the same time, more like a 3 semester internship.I hope to know which one is better for my future(in terms of employment, starting pay, opportunities). i actl do think moving over to aus might be a risk but one thing is that it could offer me an alternative route should i decide to work in aus one day.

not familiar with SUSS but seem like u have to apply
http://uc.suss.edu.sg/faqs.html

young adult can pay for monash is great! considering 2yrs u looking at at least aud$110k for living and fees. 2yr 8 moth easy AUD$150K and up and don't really need to rely on parents.. if u are like 20yr old and can find sgd$100K saved.. U may not need a monash degree to excel.
https://www.monash.edu/study/course...mmerce-b2001?international=true#current-y12ib

migrate to OZ getting harder OZ degree helps with current pt system; but if that is low in your priority and not something u see yourself doing immediately upon graduation that investment cost is high.

employment opportunities ppl may argue monash little better in SG.

starting salary does not naturally imply high salary over time. however if U spending say $120K more, what is the return on investment if U cannot migrate? even if U make 1K more that means it will take u 10yrs to recoup your investment. stocks investment ppl say every 7-8yrs U see your investment double if u strictly talk $$.
one cannot measure the intangibles with $$.

by opportunities U mean big 4?

what is the risk moving to OZ? just new place? there are alot of singaporean in monash. Not hard to network and fit in. in fact annually ~1.2k students go to OZ to study. most ppl stick with GO8.

for others going for overseas experience and dont wanna spend.
there are such options in Canada, then again no one likes far.
4yr degree ~cad$80k

4yr ~cad$160k

currently studying in oz and 2years need about 180k sgd.

if you can afford, want migrate or work (future) and network (most international student u will be knowing there are above avg/rich) , definitely go for monash.

if just want to work in sg and have financial problem then suss definitely a better choice since its including 3 sem internship (good headstart)

Nao migration with accountancy degree getting harder and harder - need 80 points which means you need to have studied in Australia AND have working experience

hi patryn33,

thanks for the links! hmmm, what i mean is that my parents r going to pay for me but I dont really want them to pay so much! I might want to work in the big four in the future but some of my friends told me employers see local cert first than overseas, so in this aspect im not sure if a degree from local is better. Hmm, im actl considering taking up a masters in aus in the future. one of the risks is cost tbh

I believe by local they mean our NUS/NTU/SMU. SUSS or SIT does not fall into local by their definition
Overseas also tricky, oz uni tend to have to stigma of reject.
Masters u better off going a better uni in uk over oz
If you can do well locally saving $$ for masters
The risk here is not $$ since u can afford Bach In monash but really if u can do well for brand uni such as LSE in Uk. Uni with GO8 masters not hard to get in.

£40-50k is like top $90k or same as a yr in monash

LSE cost of living expensive man, i almost died seeing my friend's accommodation in UCL compared to mine :s22::s22:

Edit: Good news is LSE fees are at least £5,000 lower compared to UCL/Warwick. (Regardless Under/Post Grad.)
