Anyone would like to share their experience with SUSS’ pt degree? Honestly speaking, is it worth it if I were to compare with other degrees?

Also, anyone has taken/is taking BA in General Studies? I’m really keen on taking it, but is it recognised? Because it’s really appealing on how I could choose whichever module I want to study, but at the end of the day I wanna know if it is really worth my time studying it.

I am not from SUSS. My view is SUSS cannot compare with NUS/NTU/SMU however it is still a public university and it is better compare to distance learning degree from PEIs.

What is your objective of getting a part time SUSS BA in General Studies? When a person want to become an Engineer, s/he can study engineering degree. But what can a BA in General Studies do? It only limited your career opportunity. So it will be better for you to think what you want for your career and select relevant degree course.

So still weighing the option. I also like to take up the business and IT course (erp) but do not know about programming afraid it will be a big struggle

Honestly, the real reason why I wanted to try and take up SUSS BA in General Studies is 1) I wanted to branch out my career opportunities 2) I’m still unsure of what career path I should take. I thought of taking up certain modules and while then, I could slowly take my time to decide. I currently have an interior design diploma, and I thought that maybe through the general studies degree, I could branch out elsewhere since I’m not too keen on becoming an interior designer all my life.

But now that you mention it, you’re right. Especially the part about if someone wants to be an engineer, s/he’ll take an engineering degree, not one that may only limit your opportunities. Sighs. Thank you for the reply!!

Same! I have the same worry as you. As an interior design background, as well as over a year of working experience, I’m now trying to kind of “switch” my career path into other design industry (be it an art curator, educator, etc), which is why I thought maybe going into SUSS BA in General Studies might be a good choice for me since I could choose modules that I know I haven’t learnt before. I mean really, the charm is that you can choose whichever module you want!

But now I’m left with thinking again, since I did heard that SUSS’ way of teaching is limited, and I do prefer an interactive learning environment rather than a 75% online learning approach... (which if it was the case, might as well I learn by myself through online lectures/tutorials at a whole lot cheaper rate...?)

For mid career switch, you needs to know what occupation you want to work and focus on that degree major.

If just for knowledge, you may want to consider short courses or lower level education like ITE Certificate or Polytechnic Diploma first if you intend to study IT if you are worry about programming will be a big struggle?

And yes suss is heavy on the self study component. Self discipline and time management are essential.. Strictly no spoon feeding and you are expected to research and read up by yourself for assignments and exams.

What is your objective of taking up a degree then? I assume you already have acca or cpa qualification?

Studying for my exams now and I'm doing so only because of career switch. Frankly it's a pain and I rather be able to spend my off days relaxing like everyone else.

Like a previous poster mentioned maybe it's better to do a short course or certification if you are purely interested in knowledge. Leave the government subsidy for maybe the future when you want to pursue something else. It's really very onerous to work full time (at our age) and study at the same time.

I taking up because got a lot of free time and don’t want to do nothing at home. I taking up not for job switching purpose just for knowledge purpose. Government subsidies 55% end up only need to pay 15-16k plus for a degree might as well go for it?

I don't think you have the right to criticize me. Most of your comments are criticizing TS or commenters from other threads but did not give much of valuable information or advice. What you think of me is actually what you are doing it yourself!

In this case, I will recommend SUSS bachelor of general studies over LLB(UOL). And it is expensive just for learning purposes instead of career switch.

Since you are not using the degree for career switch, you can get to chose courses that you are interested such as finance modules that are relevant and helpful to your job in accounting industry. If not wrong, you can also chose law modules since SUSS have LLB too.

As for LLB(UOL), it is kind of waste of time and money since you cannot be call to bar and you don't really use the knowledge. For example, contract is 1 thing but customer is always right especially if you are doing business with government agency. When our job needs it, it will not be us but lawyer who will advice us accordingly.

I did that. But not sure nowadays since many people are applying after the school went autonomous.. They have a flood of candidates and it's normal to assume that they give all places first to those with related experience.

I studied design and animation back in poly and applied for part time Marketing in SUSS, i got accepted. but i think that's because im already doing marketing and business stuff on my own.
