switched to mac. now what?

i just bought a macbook. as i have never use an apple before ( no ipod, iphone, ipad, imac), kind of lost on what to do first. anyone can point me in the direction on what to read up on?

first thing you will appreciate is the significant lack of irritating frequent software updates/bugfixes, like MS.

perhaps i'm too ignorant in the past, but i never really encountered much bugs nor irritated by updates/ patches and stuff. i used vista when launched until win 8 was available, which was 2 of the 3 most hated os in their history and wasn't really bothered by it


anyway, what's the first thing i need to do? for windows, i know i need to start updating, then start installing the programs i used. is there also an app store in ios or what's it call?

If you need to read up on how to use mac, I think windows suit you more bro. Mac is simply straightforward. don need to learn anything, explore yourself will do. maybe learn the keyboard shortcut keys help

didn't expect that my trading platforms does not run on mac ( at least there's no instructions for installation). anyway i can get around of installing windows application on mac other than using bootcamp?

call me a dummy. i'm still fustrated on using the platform after spending a few hours on it

what windows applications are you trying to install?

if you are going to install so many windows application then you can sell your mac away now lololol


the only windows thing i installed was windows 7 and ms office 2013. couldn't stand office 2011

Just learn the trackpad gestures and shortcuts.
For your windows apps, you can use VMWare or Parallels.

most trading platforms should work on mac. i have issues with my trading platform on mac only with singtel fiber. Other network is ok. No idea why.

Installing windows on mac, especially on virtual, can be laggy. Even bootcamp can be laggy. for me, i use separate laptops. windows for trading & gaming. mac for every other thing.

a tip. if u google hard enough, u will find that most software can be obtained free. the common ones i mean.

So why did you get a mac in the first place? It is vital to do some research on software compatibility before anyone should buy a new system with a new OS. Anyway, if it is really so hard to use, maybe Windows will suit you better. Nothing wrong with both OS, each have their strengths. For most mac users, we like it cos macs simply work out of the box, simple and straightforward. It is often Windows, which is often not-so-straight-forward which is causing some people to find macs OS X's simplicity 'hard' to use.

It does help if one reads up on the basics such as installing and uninstalling programs, features, files navigation,setting own preferences etc, IMHO, which is what I did before getting my first mac.

That is how I start.

Install office 2011, VLC player etc....for Mac, just dl the dmg file. Once dl, click and if prompts u to install or drag software into application folder and that's it....

6 year Mac user but I am still not expert. My wife and friends switch over to Mac easily.....lol!

Thks for the suggestions. Have been looking into the videos on YouTube for guidance over the last few days. Thus far windows is still far easier to operate for me but not as bad as first started.

Well I got a macbook becos I want to save a few bucks from a equivalent spec machine ( a lenovo or asus of similar spec I look at cost much more than 2k). My original preference samsung no longer sells laptop. Wanted to get a sony, but the sales rep ignored me when I made my enquiries.

guess I will have to live with the decisions I made. This shall be a lesson learned for me. Will see if I really miss the mt4 platform before deciding if I should run it with wine
