im 30 already. dun have much quali... i'm thinkin of switching industries / fields from IT to banking, finance, business. have no diploma. still worth it ? or should i just ditch the idea cos by the time i'm done no one would hire me at the age i'm at. currently doing IT. if i plan to switch gotta start frm scratch which means attaining dip, followed by deg. doubt employers would hire someone in their late 30s as against... what do you guys think? lolz.

Hi Elspeth, it is probably THE question for those of us approaching 30 or early 30s. I too am 30 this year and I am still trying to get my degree (1.5yrs more) and my degree is not relevant to my work. So I can't answer your question yet.

But I think unless you really dislike your industry , taking a dip/degree relevant to your current industry would be a better choice. Just my 2 cents worth.

Your current qualifications?
You said you have no diploma meaning...no diploma in the new profession you want or no diploma in your current profession?

I think you should stick with what you already know which is IT (and I suppose you have the related certs)

I'm curious why you want to switch profession? bored ? low pay? stress?

Anyway it doesn't hurt to study part-time for additional degree if you have the time and money and passion.

IMO if work in IT it's not about the papers More like experience and professional Certs.

I got opportunity to do my IT degrees but I switched to business instead. Can't see myself going for more pro cert after graduation

My Old Man is in the same field. Got Os only but multiple pro cert still making a living

There are so many jobs in banking, finance, business & etc. What you want? Auxiliary police officer in a bank? Insurance agent in Finance Industry? Open a business & be a boss yourself?

I advice you to think & plan what you want for a career instead of just looking for a job blindly.

What makes you think switching will means a better future ? It always seems the patch on the other side of the bank often looks more green.

Actually I suppose a better question to ask yourself is why did you choose this career in the first place. Qualification may be important, but knowing what you want from the choice you have made is more important.

If you decided to change, no matter which age you are done with your transition, you still have to ask the same question. Why did you choose to do what you have chosen ?

If you have no passion in what you are doing, it doesn't matter if you have chosen the best career in the world, you still wouldn't excel and you still wouldn't achieve what you set out for.

I'm neither IN for change or not, that is not the crux to your problem.

Hi TS, I think banking, finance, business all require paper qualifications, unless you're doing sales.
