Just wondering if I onli stay 1 day in Sydney, is it stil worth to buy Opal?
Cards can only be bought and topped up at $10 increments. Although note that if you want to use it on the train to/from the airport stations, there is a fee of around $14 added to the fare (and capped at $27 per week). This applies even on Sunday, in addition to the fare cap. Note that the start of the week is Monday.
There isn't a day pass, but opal cards have a daily maximum of $15 (plus the additional airport fee mentioned above, if using the airport stations). It keeps adding up each day until it meets this amount, then all travel afterwards for the day is free of charge (but you still need to tap).
Also note that there is an off peak discount when travelling during non-peak hour periods, and this is only available with an opal card.
Refunds are only possible if you have an Australian bank account.
If you want to avoid the airport fee, you can catch bus 400 to Rockdale and change to a train, or go to Mascot on the same bus but opposite direction, with about 5-10 mins walk.
It's also possible to walk out of the airport - from international to Wolli Creek station, or from domestic to Mascot station. Both will take about 30 mins.
