Tainan or Taitung?

Anyone been to these two places? Got time to only go for one and not sure which one to choose. Can recommend?

Going to rent scooter to go around the places.

Taitung is more beautiful.

taitung is more countryside while Tainan is more on historical buildings

Hot air balloon festival best done by taitung folks. Fireworks festival? When? If u bought ur tix and coincides with your travel then ok. If not change your date of travel, go another day just to match those events.

I opt for Tainan. Been to almost all the major cities.

* take a train*from Taipei all the way down to Taitung
* rent a car*there
* leisurely drive up the Taiwan east coast to Hualien
* return the car there and go*back to Taipei by train*again

One of the attractions for me in Tainan is to visit the Garden Nightmarket, a closely packed market where you can sample a lot of stuff over a small walking distance.

Pity that it's only open on Thu, Sat and Sun nights, so have to plan your trip dates if you are visiting.

The region around the Anping fortress is also filled with nice food for daytime stroll and lunch.
