Day 4? TMS, wulai for some hotspring or soak feet, then back longshan temple, walk a bit of snake alley. Then pop by one nm, then go back sleep?

Or one day at shifen, pingxi line.

to build on what calkel20 has said, you can consider the following:

day trip to pingxi line, including houtong cat village, pingxi & Chiufen etc.
day trip to taichung
beitou hot spring
other options include wugu wetland park (heard very beautiful but hard to reach), maokong during sunset for it's unbeatable view of the taipei skyline, shenkeng tofu street for nibbles... etc.
you can even go to jiaoxi in yilan for hotspring... hsinchu to visit the temple, eat beehoon etc.

many options.

IMO yeliu is overcrowded and underwhelming...

yeah should squeeze in jiufen and shifen for full day trip if u dun mind dropping Yehliu
can light lanterns for good fortune :)

if you parents cant walk long distance u will need 2 skip shifen waterfall though
but means u can do the whole pingsi line
pingsi line starts as ruifang, which is around 20mins away from keelung for miaokou

heres a blogger which did it
but note that most blogs do juifen --> shifen rather thn de other way round

i did shifen then chiufen, but also did yeliu on the same day in the morning, a little rushed. If you don't mind the price, you can spend the night at chiufen as there are quite a few nice b&bs there
Actually along the pingxi train line houtong cat village is also nice to explore.

Jiufen minsu are very nice and laid back, and they do not cost as much as staying in Taipei. That is one point for you to consider.:)

Sky Lantern always there..either Pingxi or Shifen depending on what kind of scenery you like.

Typhoon just requires the right condition to start..Can be in May also but take note weather wont be as cooling.

For stay, i reco around Taipei Main Station..Super near one would be Cosmos and YMCA..Cityinn I and Just Sleep(Just Sleep cost more) just around the street..

My favourite is Cityinn II/III which is a few mins of straight forward walk away..At least it's quiet around the place..
