Taipei one free day

I am going to Taipei over the Vesak break on June 1st. I have an extra free day in Taipei, after counting out all the usual places like SML, Alishan, Jiufen, Shifen and Yehliu. Are there any other recommended places to visit as a day trip? I dont think the guys would appreciate a full 3 days of shopping.

I am looking at Yangmingshan but not sure what to do there in summer. Last time I went during spring for the calla lilies and it was nice. What other places to see there? I know June will be hot and hiking may be uncomfortable.

I saw in the Taiwan even calendar about Fulong Beach Sand Art festival. Anyone ever went there before? It is around 1hr drive away near to Jiufen/Keelung and I am wondering if it is worth the taxi day trip fare. There is not much information on this festival online.

Fulong can be accessible by train.
The beach is very near to the station.
So hop onto the train and will get you there in no time.
Do take note of the time to leave that place as not many fast trains around.

Nope.

I do hiking from fulong to dali station.

The trail is 草嶺古道。
