Kenting mainly for water sports. If you're not into that then would suggest not to go. You can either take a bus or taxi from Kaohsiung. Bout 2 hours ride. Can do a day trip as well

Is Kenting nice to visit?

taipei/taiwan= cheaper, more things to see and do, more laidback especially in places like sml, cingjing

hk= expensive city, stressful and hectic, rude and loud people, better food and shopping.

so if you want to eat and shop go hk.

Taipei so much better Hongkong imho. Things are overprice in HK, the people there are all angsty as fug and they don't really have anything interesting to do there apart from ocean park and Disneyland

If you are solo tripping, I would recommend you to stay in a hostel as You get to meet different people from different countries and it can be an interesting experience. Staying in a hotel means that you would most probably be coop up inside your room only :s13:

Just my 2 cents and I have been staying at a hostel for all my trips ever since

Any hotel to recommend?

Low powered electric bikes (speed up to around 30-35km/h) don't require licence. High powered ones (as fast as motorbikes) do. They may also need to be recharged if you ride further than 50-60km, but some restaurants have charging facilities that you can use for a small fee.

While the electric bikes are fun, you need to consider if you are able to handle the traffic. Generally, traffic is not heavy, but can be congested in Heng Chun and Kenting, and there are speeding buses between attractions.

I rode a regular scooter in Kenting, and an electric bike in Tainan. The electric bikes feel very light and unstable compared to a real scooter, and it was hard to regulate the speed as it either goes very slowly or goes at full speed. So be extra careful, especially on the main roads where the big tourists buses ply, and the winds can be VERY strong.

Yes, Kenting region is beautiful, but depending on the time of the year, can be chock full of tourists. Kenting town on the other hand, is overly commercialized and full of tourists.

Kenting is on the west coast, but it is the east coast, facing the Pacific Ocean, that I find more impressive. If you have your own transport, it is a very beautiful and fun place to explore. Kenting is not just a night-market and seas, there's also the beautiful and peaceful countryside and small little towns dotting the entire region. Scooters and ebikes are available (read my post above on this topic).

In historic Heng Chun town, there's a small mostly-locals night market(Sunday only) that you can check out. Unlike the Kenting night market, this one is devoid of tourists, which I feel makes it more authentic and less busy.

If you don't have your own transport, then you'll have to rely on the public buses or taxis, which I imagine is more inconvenient.

And lastly, if I had to choose between between HK and Taiwan, I would pick Taiwan. HK food is better, but in almost every other aspect, Taiwan is better (note: this is a subjective opinion).

This I have to agree, was in Kenting during the last week of September last year and it was flooded with ah Tiong tourist due to it being their golden weekend so it's not advisable to go during that period. Almost every other living establishment is filled by them and they are so fugging noisy  so if you want to experience how living with ah Tiong is like, then you can go during this weekend
