just wondering if you book tickets for the HSR, is it free seating or allocated seats?

can you request for a window seat?

is there a peak period where the trains are fully booked?

usually HSR sure got seats wan(but some times during super peak holiday like CNY,it can b fully booked)
there r free n allocated seat. usually is allocated seats unless u request for free seats
not sure if u can request for a windows seat(can try)

If you are buying online, seats will be allocated unless you are buying on the spot. There are 3 cabins allocated for free seatings too and the price will be cheaper than the normal ones. Since you are going on Monday morning, try to book early to get the early bird discounts.

If the normal tickets are fully book. Opt for the free seating seats as they allow you to stand all the way if you are unable to snatch a seat.

If you intend on free sitting, you just make sure you hop on to the train once it is in the bay to grab your seats. If you do not get it, and not rushing,vwait for the next train lor... Abt 30 mins one departure.
You will not like to stand around for that 2 hours in a Bullet train or be caught without a seat.

I'm travelling to Taipei during CNY period (chu 3-chu 8), planning to have a one day tour to Tai Chung on chu 4 or chu 5. Wondering if I needa book the HSR tix online (heard there's early bird promo but is it applicable to online booking?) or can I get it on that day?

Early bird tix for 35% are snapped instantly online 28days before your trip. If for 10-20% maybe if you wake up in the morning still have. For early bird tix, not likelihood you can get on the actual day, almost like non-existing, no chance at all.

Thanks for the heads up! I'll book the tixs to taichung online then! Do you think I should also book the tixs back to Taipei from taichung? cause I not sure how much time I'm gonna spend there (gg SML n fengjia nm).. so thinking buy the tixs when I finish looking around but scare no tixs available when I buy so last min.. Any advise?

during mine 3 times take HSR in nov book thru online~

they give me window seats dont know heng or they know i prefer window seat haha

Dun worry will have tickets one, if no tickets, cabin 10-12 will wait for you,vjust nobseats stand all ghe way to taipei only.

yes you can. why don't you can try entering the station first (not sure if you can, i haven't tried it before)... but if you can, just sneak in and board the next train and sit wherever there's an empty seat.

you can also board any prior train if you happen to arrive early (for eg. 230pm), but you can only enter the station max 1 hour before (after 2pm), not any earlier.

I was asked to pay extra that time when i took earlier train when the staff went around checking our tickets as my ticket was early bird ticket. She told me unless i am willing to wait for the actual arrival time then I am able to exit.

Yes, you are not allowed to exit even if you are one train early.
But boarding wise, please do not hoard other people's seat, it is courtesy, move to the free seating at cabin 10-12.
