We plan to travel to Taiwan for 9d8n and intend to spend our time on few cities as below. Which city should be go first from Taoyuan airport ?


Tainan 2N
Kaoshiung 2N
Alishan 1N
Taipei 3N

I'll bet that you have not looked at the map and also at transport along your itinerary. Looking at the map is the most basic thing to do.

If you are driving or getting a private personalized tour, your itinerary is ok.

If this is your 1st time to Taiwan and replying on public transport, just cut down to 2 cities/places.

Taipei should be last so that you don't have to worry to catch your return flight if there is any delay in the public transport.

For DIY, this kind of trip got to do many research, you need to count into the transportation time.
Since landing and depart is at Taoyuan. Assume Taipei Last

Main issue is;
From Taoyuan to Alishan
- what time you land?
- HSR Chiayi Station #7329 bus to alishan, last bus is 1.10pm

We intend to travel to Alishan after kaoshiung or tainan. We are still thinking if we should just stay 4 nights in either tainan or kaoshiung so that we need not going thru the hassle of changing hotels .

You may want to see which city has more of the things you are keen in. Transport wise, Kaohsiung sure wins since it has metro system. If Tainan has more things to see then prepare to walk a bit. The last time I went Tainan, there was a day where I walked almost 20 km... I could hardly move the next day...

You can pick Taipei, Taichung and Kaoshiung as your base for hotel. Do day trip for others places.

Taoyuan Airport > Kaoshiung > Tainan > Alishan > Taipei (if you want more time in Tainan, Alishan and Taipei)
or
Taoyuan Airport > Tainan > Alishan > Kaoshiung > Taipei (if you want more time in Kaoshiung and slightly lesser time in Taipei)

Tainan and Alishan can switch around depending on your plan.

Staying nearer to Alishan will be better since your main purpose is to view the sunrise. Tainan to Alishan will be around 2 hours+ drive.

I know there are luggage storage in train stations but don't know got space or not. Better to search online.
I planned to keep luggage at the hotel I stay in the mid of Alishan but hotel don't allow me. I keep them in Alishan train station. There are many lockers.

You want to see sunrise better stay at the Alishan top. Morning take train to Zhushan station.
I don't know when you going. I went on CNY period, reach Zhushan station, it's 5 degree.
