Taking O Levels as private candidate (self study)

Hi all,

As the title states, I plan on taking the O's as a private candidate. To date, I have only a single N level pass at the NT level and that was 6 years ago

I plan on taking for the L1R5:
English
E-Math
A-Math
POA
Combined Humans (social studies + history)
and a science subject to be determined

My plan after the O's is to either go Poly or take A's as pte candidate with the view of pursuing a career in finance

Based on what I've shared, are my listed subjects easy to self study?

Standards of O levels have been raised; so you need to study very hard or you may consider getting tuition or study night school in ITE.

In your opinion, for the L1R5, which subjects are the easiest to self study?

Your list is ok. Is history easier to study than geography? You can go to bookshop and look at the textbooks for both subjects.
Combined science (phy/chem) is a popular option for many students and easier to score A1.

If your desire is to work in the finance sector. I do not think you need A-Math. You need 2 years to be prepared. Furthermore you have been away from book for 6 years.

Hi,

POA is easy to self-study.
Combined Humans - if you take SS+History the skills are very similar and transferable across the 'two subjects'. But hopefully you have interest in History.
Science subject - usually easier to study and score for Combined Science. I think someone said this.
A Maths can be tough! Many struggle with it for some reason. Personally i prefer A to E Math cos of the standard working and approach to most qns.

Oops, just to add. I think you definitely need to go to a private school or get a tutor. Studying is one thing. Sitting for the exams and knowing what examiners want to see is another.

Definitely go to a school. Self studying is easier said than done. Not to mention unless you are extremely disciplined, you will more than likely give up halfway without the infrastructure.

Look for a good private school. O levels, there's quite a lot of options.

I think combined humans should be manageable(largely memorising), E-math as well, but if you really want to study Amath you should definitely look for a tutor and practice practice practice! If not, you can choose to study maybe another humanities subject like pure geog(I took that a few years ago and it was largely just memorising and regurgitation and I managed to do relatively well despite never paying attention in lessons) I never took POA but I heard from my friends that it is not too difficult.
