taking train from Taipei to Hualien

Hi, i will be staying near TPE main station, would like to know the best/economical way to go from TPE to Hualien (to visit the Taroko).
Am considering the train option but there seems so many types of trains, which one should i go for?

also wonder if "Fu-Hsing semi express" still available?

Yes. And book your tix in advance. Some Tze-chiang does not allow boarding without seats. You may board, but subjected to a 50% surcharged which maybe levy on you.

the rule says must collect tix 30min before boarding, but since i will be boarding in early morning, can i collect it the day before?

TAROKO and PUYUMA no standing allowed. There is a sign in Hualien that states those who board will be subjected to a fine of 50%. Meaning a 440NT tix will then cost u 660NT. Of course that will be subjected to the conductor's call.

Below the height of 90cm or 1.2m, no need tix. But also doesn't mean they have the rights to occupy that seat. And usually parents will let their kid take up empty seat lor.

Collect from Taipei main station level one. There are more booth there. The local Automated dispensing machines where you can input your bookings and collect the tix are not for us/foreigners. They are strictly for the Taiwaneses/people with ARC.

book online.. zhi qiang express train..
collect from tms.. the counters... there a lot of them.. show them ur pp, pay get the tics..
just do a print out..

But it was only a trial and I've not completed any booking yet...now what?
Another question is how do I indicate senior tix to get the discount? I was almost at the credit card payment page but don't find any discounts.

Per PP no max of 6 tickets..

But booking is 14 days in advance only..or 16 if ur intended travel falls on a Sun..

nope only for 6.
i tried using another pp as well, as i progress until the page when they show no tickets available, then i return back and after that i always receive this error.

U booked the trial ones got cancel off bo? If bo, then pls cancel and try again or use another passport number.
