1. There are a few options to store along the way at Midagahara and Murodo. My fave is Mikurigaike Onsen but it requires a bit of hiking. Skip Raichoso, even futher away from station and not worth it.

2. I would suggest using their luggage forwarding services. Can get crowded on the transport and if you are planning to stay at places not near the stations, it's not possible to lug a big luggage around. I always travel with a backpack.

1) Mikurigaike Onsen - how long will the hike take?

2) how does this work?

Depends on the season. Summer and autumn without snow is around 20-30mins. There are proper steps most part. During winter or late autumn with snow, took me around 40-50mins walking on slippery snow.

Yup, get ur hotel to arrange the forwarding.

nice...should not cost more than 100sgd for 2 luggage? (Tokyo to Osaka). Do i need to bring my luggage to the forwarder's place?

As i will only be checking in the day after, will the osaka hotel be willing to keep my luggage? or do i collect at the forward's place?

U can check ta-q-bin website for price of forwarding. Get hotel to arrange for u, and just leave ur luggage with hotel.
Forwarding is usually overnight, so just nice for u. They will forward straight to ur hotel

Hi all,

based on my travel plans below, what's the suggested route/way to tour Tateyama Kurobe Alpine? seems like i will have to go back and forth...will the one-way pass allow me to do so?

Tokyo > Mikurigaike Onsen @ Murado (1 night) > next day travel to Osaka

Yes from Tokyo you can choose shinkansen > toyama> tateyama stn to begin ur journey or choose Tokyo > nagano > ogizawa
So from tateyama to OSAKA you can do tateyama>toyama>kanazawa>OSAKA via JR hokuriku

From ogizawa to OSAKA you can go shimano omachi>matsumoto>nagoya>osaka

So basically if u choose 1 way, example entry is tateyama exit will be ogizawa.

I think it's a 1 way thing. You can't go back and forth. You will need to buy separate stop tickets unless you are getting the tourist pass that includes unlimited alpine route rides.

The 1 way option ticket covers you from nagano to toyama 5 days validity at 9800 yen.

The unlimited 5 days tourist pass covers from shimano omachi at 17500 yen.

You can do the unlimited one if you want. But if you only have 1 day it's hardly enough to justify the price.

Anyway if you stay hotel tateyama they have morning sunrise tour with bus to daikanbo. And not to mention the snow Wall is just outside the hotel. Abit more expensive but its the highest hotel in Japan. They have stargazing activity on fri or Sat too

Lucky for you, murado is at the center of the route. You do half the route on day 1 and the other half on day 2. Your journey from Tokyo to both tateyama or ogizawa takes 3 to 4 hours. Which doesn't give you a lot of time to explore the route anyways. The transportation follows a strict timetable so best if you check it out as you will be taking a series of transport with like 10mins to 1 hr gaps in between for you to explore the place. Make sure you reach murado before the last cable. Likewise from any exit to OSAKA takes 4 hours at least.

Anyway I feel that the part between ogizawa to murado is more interesting than the 2nd part as you cross the dam. So I wouldn't think you have spare time to continue from murado onwards. But if you need to you can always buy stop tickets for that backtracking journey.

That said you should check out the unazaki onsen. That is where the downstream of the dam and they have those simi tram that transports workers into the deep mountain stream.

assuming i cover 1st half in day 1 and 2nd half in day 2, i can use the same option ticket?
