400-500 is way too high.. Probably u went on a merry go round. It shouldn't be more than 400.. Unless u r caught in a real horrible jam.

My recent trip from Bkk International airport to my Apartment-hotel cost about B$560 (displayed in the taxi meter) exclude toll fee but when from the Apartment-Hotel back to the International Airport the taxi meter showed B$240 exclude toll fee.

Any ideas why huh ?

i paid around 400 plus baht from the airport to my hotel (glow pratunam). dont know whether did i get chopped or not cos on the day of my departure, i paid slightly less than 300 baht from my hotel to the airport. but there was a bit of jam on the first day, and on top of that, i need to pay an additional 50 baht for a metered cab.

Bkk taxis stikk don't use meter one leh. Took so many only one used meter and the meter really seldom jump*unlike our local taxis lol

Ytd I took a taxi from jj to glow silom was quoted 150 was surprised he quoted so cheap mostly taxi I took open mouth standard 300 baht

95% of the taxi I took run by meter. I never succumb to negotiation unless no choice like after partying in songkran where there r less taxi than people.
For tourist, no 1 rule is try not to flag those cab that are stationary. Most of those are waiting to chop tourist with rubbish fare quote. So many taxi in Bkk, don't want go by meter just flag the next one.

Either the meter is being tempered with, or it did not start at 35baht. 560 baht is excessive from airport to downtown.

i took a cab from asiatique back to my hotel, was quoted 300 baht by those cab drivers on standby. i just ignored them and went to queue up for cab, i wanted a metered cab but the guy said they dont operate by meter. i insisted then the guy LLST, in the end i only paid 87 baht for my ride.

meter cab always 200 - 300B, would rather cab and jam inside for an hour for 90B max

What u talking about? they are all meter cab, just that a number of drivers do not want go run the meter when they see foreigner and want to negotiate a price which will alway be way higher than actual meter.
Its not like u pay 200-300, you wont be stuck in a jam unless that car can fly.

Cool cool. LTA has no authority over thai taxi ar haha. I used to like most ppl very calculative about meter or not until my thai friend said to me "even the driver charging a flat 100 baht instead of by meter say 60 baht, convert to SGD the difference only like SGD$1.60, however the additional money is helping to feed the driver's family. So why get so hot up over this?"

But i not saying we let the driver anyhow tok, jus tat we supposed to be on holiday mood, so at time we kena made to pay abit more, should jus laugh it off and move on.
