I remember Chia Song Hwee as the leader who led Chartered Semiconductor. Many Singaporean investors from an older generation got burnt by Chartered. Charred by Chartered. haha.

He's a finance guy. Maybe that's why he wasn't suited to lead Chartered. Maybe Temasek suits him better. Temasek investment performance doesn't look good compared to GIC, considering the higher risks it took.

After my stint there, it reinforces my belief that foreigners are not the talents as pappies promote. Just economic refugees. The HR once boasted during the orientation they had nationalities from 30+ countries, yet these so called foreign talents (mostly tiongs), can't even propel the company forward. Instead they drove it to the ground.

Can't even close the technology gap with TSMC and UMC. Those days only 3 top foundries, with Chartered being a far distant no. 3 behind.

Before I left and Chia was still the CEO, they had to get into a JV with IBM and other alliance, paying IBM 40mil a year in licensing to get their 90nm tech process.

In the end only got a one-off to manufacture the 1st gen x-box processor.

Get an accountant to lead a tech company.

Not waiting for a disaster to happen, but a disaster in the making.

How many lost $$$ in their shares under his leadership?
Sounds alot like our politicians in parliament 😂
