Good day,

I tried to purchase a SAFRA-NTUC term insurance (max of $200) for my family member last month. As she had an operation back in Oct 2010 to remove an ovary, NTUC has since excluded that condition and counter-offered up to $50k instead.

My query is as follows:

1) I have a letter of discharge from the doctor to certify that the patient has since fully recovered from the operation. Does this help? Will this exclusion be permanent? Meaning even if I take up an insurance 5-10 years later, this exclusion will still apply?

2) Assuming I agree to the counter-offer of insuring up to 50k only instead of 200k, can I apply to increase the coverage in the next renewal?

Anyone encounter this before? I need to decide to accept NTUC offer or go source for another insurer.

For all insurance application, would be best to provide as much documentation/reports so that the underwriters can make the most appropriate decisions on the case. If little or no documentations are provided, underwriters will normally base the worse case scenario and give you the worse case deal (ie high premium loading or more exclusions).

So, I reckon you should submit the report and see if it helps. If it doesn't, no harm trying 1 or 2 more other companies to see if they can give you a better coverage before deciding.

Is it exclusion for female generative organs?

If it is FGO exclusion, then typically there's nothing to be done for 5 years from last operation.
Encourage to go for regular check-ups and keep memos or ultrasound reports during the 5-years.
When you appeal for removal of exclusion or increase coverage, you have to show in the 5-years there was no recurrence and no other complications and no new issues regarding the FGO.

I would accept the exclusion and limited cover being counter-offered.
The plan is cheap that's why the underwriting cannot be more liberal than the counter-offer.
