DCA when price go up? Confused.
if you are expecting it to go up even further why not? if you are only going to DCA when the price is going down and don't ever expect it to go up, then u might as well don't dca?

What investment text book will advise buying at ATH?
I think there are.. as long as the uptrend momentum is spotted, you did the same for short term trading. However easy to say than done!

Look no further, see the charts of FAAMG

No text book, novice approach ! this is what I did..

Look for stocks with trending chart like APPL, triangular up, monthly ATH records frequency.

Time it with reference to NASDAQ to find correction widow, you will see some small correction (3-5%) window , this pattern is changing every now and then but you just have to adapt along the way.

Since APPL has high weightage on NASDAQ.. The correlation accuracy is there.

Buy in smaller tranche. So far so good, you won't always get it right but overall hit rate is not bad.

In summary, ATH -3 to 5% . bullish days, just buy at ATH .

Dca is buying regularly with the same amount of money, regardless of share price. It goes against "dont fall in love with a stock" concept. Ideally, dca-er will expect the stock to be generally on uptrend. So it is buying at ath continuously.

I dont dca though, no money.

Is there anyone here who actually DCA into TSLA? I'd be very interested to find out the results.

Extremely difficult to dca a high price counter (unless fractional share). :(
Share split will make it much easier (provided the price wont bounce up too high again).

If you DCA a stock into ATH, wouldn't you be losing money if the price crashes and never go back up to the ATHs? Say now you DCA Tesla till $2000. Your average is $1700-$1800. If Tesla shares crashes and goes back to $800 and stays around $800-$1400 for the next 5 years, you are screwed

You can do backtesting for that

I can, but i'm guessing it won't be ideal with a stock like TSLA given the volatility and the current market conditions.

Everytime you do it you're mostly buying a new ATH. So i'm curious if anyone is actually doing it knowing this and be consistent with it.

it is ATH now. but the ATH now might no longer be the case tomorrow, as tomorrow might be another ATH...

So how do you proceed on this basis?

What results are you talking about since you can do backtesting.

This is what's happening to some rsp, roboadvisor, sti etf dca-er now. However, dca does work for many other counters. Once again, i am not advocating dca but pointing out that there r ppl who buy high and higher. U can refer to dca articles or investmemt book for better understanding. ;)
