I heard they are opening up to 80 total positions for Software Engineering alone. Good luck there for getting into the program.

Seems like it's just rebranded from full stack development. Former sounds too scary for non tech person I guess. o_O

Pay like normal software engineer also? (60-80kpa)

Software engineering in SG really sad leh.
Take the benchmark with a pinch of salt. Some companies are offering inflated positions all over the place, a IT support guy can be called a software engineer / systems analyst in certain industries/firm. I won't be surprised that the benchmark samples consist of the above group of people.

Furthermore, with the forced acceleration of digitalization, web/software developers are highly valued. I've done talent acquisition for fintech firms awhile back.

to me the experience you gained that matters more than the company inflate your positions. Highly valued is one thing, but for a person to career switch to IT is a steep learning curve.

Yup, I agree with you. But my response above was to the "sad" salary benchmark of software engineers in SG. :)

My main motivation of wanting to join TFIP is the opportunity to work with like minded people, mentorship, experience, and ultimately stepping into the world of tech and open more doors.

:s11:

So are you a talent acquisitor already in finance, or are somebody outside finance getting in?

I'm in HR function for a fintech company.

My point is software and web developers with experience can be getting really good money and not like the benchmark you posted earlier.

Looking to join the DA/CS track and transit to a tech role.

like minded fellow trainees still possible, but like minded team members in the FI a bit difficult. For sure you can open more doors with software engineer backgrounds haha.

Anyone from the previous batches (full-stack developer) can share your experiences? The monthly allowance is very good but I’m not sure if software developer in FI is a good place to start. Most likely doing more mundane work (debugging, etc)

think very few people signed up for this track compared to others. Cause today they just sent newsletter only promoting this specific track.

I've applied, but kind of nervous. Not sure how difficult the assessment will be. Judging from previous years' Full Stack Dev intakes, it might be pretty challenging.

Does anyone have any study tips?

I assume, to practice as much code in your preferred language (i.e. C/ C++, Python, or whatever they have available for you to code) on TopCoders.com or Hackerrank.com, and score. Moreover, maybe some of those online MCQ tests on software engineering, and get as many questions correct as possible for those test.

I think for now, that is the best solution.

I've been practicing on Leetcode.com for the past two months, so I hope that would help.

Thanks for the advice! Did you apply as well?

I thought they would train you for the position if accepted ? So I assume it's start from scratch ? Why they test programming skills then ?

I thought so too, but looking at the other tracks (Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence etc) it would seem that they do test for technical knowledge in those respective areas.

For instance, there were statistics related questions for Data Analytics and AI.

I am assuming the same for Software Engineering.

To be fair, I don't think they would really test your ability to solve programming algorithms. They probably will ask your basic understanding of software development in general.

Maybe HTML, CSS, JS?

Shrug

But they didn't put this in the pre-requiste for applying for the course ? Then many people will be disappointed. I'm sure many people would have taken stats before but needed some refresher.
