Hi all, since we travel so often to Thailand, was thinking that it make sense to open an account in Thailand.

Would like to know if any one is familiar on how to go about doing it? Open at a local bank or foreign bank? Any problems with declaring money going into the country?

if you walk into a bank wanting to open an account right now they would ask you for work permit. but there is a thread saying you would be able to go to the singapore embassy over in thailand to get a document to open an account. but it not full proof you be able to open at any bank you like.

If you are going for holiday visit not business visit, just use UOB atm card to withdraw thai baht from atm machine. I think there is no additional fee, for update check with the bank. UOB atm card can withdraw from many atm, not just from UOB atm.

Setting up an account is more convenient as it'll eliminate the transaction charges. Not too sure if they will question the origin of the money and all.
