You set a PIN or password to unlock your phone? I had this happen to me twice before. The 2nd time, I saw what had happened. Basically, if you enter the wrong PIN or password wrongly for 8 times, the phone will reset and your internal memory and sd card will be wiped. I saw the prompt about the reset on the 2nd time it happened but it was too late for me to do anything.

Thanks for sharing. This is a useful info.

My Z5 is right now hanged. It was a bit laggy, so I restart it. It has been stuck in the powering down screen since for the last 1.5 hr.

With no removeable battery, I can't do anything about it. :(

Wow... will research into this.

The SD card has so many trip/photo memories that a wipe-out is like wiping out a portion of my life. Whilst I may do backups, if the wipe-out happens after an important event before backup, it will be quite sad.

Yup it's an android security feature

But the camera now has a "new" update. Not sure if they were trying to push the update and caused this uber hard reset. Anyway the camera still have no controls over the ISO if you choose > 8MP. Damn! Why is it so hard to make the user choose the ISO in manual mode when it is at 23MP.
The new camera update is dumb. Harder to control the settings now

You can still unerase the images.

Actually you mean enter 8 times wrong as in straight 8 times? I guess if the fingerprint scan wrongly 8 times, the same will happen? But its quite drastic that they wipe everything off due to wrong password for 8 times. There should be a better way to protect the user's info other than wiping it totally clean.

Today it happened again around lunch time. Same thing, I put in my back pocket, and when I reached the foodcourt, I took out the phone and what I see is a restart screen totally white and I know it is doing something in the background. After awhile, I am shown the language page and I know it has did a factory hard reset again. Geesh...I did not even input my pin and yet it auto-reset itself. This is getting really bizarre!

I thought its my company's security app which I need to install so that I can pull my email from my email server. I guess its some dumb function in the phone which caused this issue. This is the 2nd time that it happened. Makes me worry that I put something important in the phone and everything get wiped out. Zzzzz....

Interesting that I never had any experience like this on any android phone ever. You have a magic butt!

If so far only you experience it, I would suspect it is the company security app you mentioned that is causing it.

it is most definitely your company security policies that is causing this problem.

in this case, here are the things you can do:

1) Write to your company CTO to stop this wipe nonsense.
2) If you fail to achieve one, perhaps don't put your phone in the back pocket? I'd no issues with my Z5P so far in front pocket

Can more Z5 owners feedback more on the new Camera UI 2.0?
In terms of usability and speed. I doubt there'll be improvements to the image quality though.

Sent from Sony D5833 using GAGT

start up speed is slightly improved/faster, picture quality the same, except when using clear zoom, clear zoom implementation (picture quality) is slightly better.

personally i don't think it does alot this new ui. just makes it easier to change mode. thats about it.

well my company policy is
if u try to connect to activesync
the exchange will blocked you first...
if u managed to pass thru the block, *someone authorized you*
if u do not proper approval
we will remote wipe u
if u come in again, we will remote wipe u again LOL

Yep, companies. Exchange Server will request for permission to take over your phone. So in case of security breach on your phone, everything will be wiped out.

So have a good look at the permissions when you try to add an Exchange email address.
