my z5 gets pretty hot after some usage (Google Maps, etc) and the battery is way less than the 2 days advertised even on standby man..

anyway, we can't really remove all the Xperia bloatware installed for now - not sure if root is available out there.

i don't even have background apps running!

z5 seems to be quite unimpressive and overhyped.

But I have been reading this at the XDA forums, and you need to wait for SA to switch to Night mode before you take the picture for best results.

There are reports that the low light shots were not taken in the right mode, hence the lackluster results. I'm itching to try the Z5.

But I have been reading this at the XDA forums, and you need to wait for SA to switch to Night mode before you take the picture for best results.

Indeed, Xperia's camera SA mode need to recognized the environment and adjust it's settings, iso etc to determine which scene to use for taking photos.

At least that's how it works. Whether it did a good job of not, i believe opinion varies, lol

I would say Sony's bloatware is much less compared to Samsung. In fact Z5 only has 2 bloatware that could not be removed, i.e. save the trouble of rooting.

To royal xperia users, the main selling point of xperia has never been the camera. It is and always has been the minimalist UI and battery life.

If Samsung's approach is to cramp everything at the expense of battery life, Sony's approach is to give as much as possible in order to ensure 2 days battery life.

Not saying Samsung is bad in that way as that approach brought them to where they were today. But I would still prefer Sony, both for the design+build quality and durability (both battery life and lifespan of the phone).

P.S: I was an old user of Samsung flip phones (2 phones owned) followed by sony-ericsson (2 phones owned). Thereafter, I changed to S2-->Z1-->Galaxy Tab S (used as my phone due to cracked Z1 screen from accident and I wanted a tablet at the same time). I just changed to Z5 recently and I must say I am a satisfied owner so far.

A well written review indeed. Thanks for discouraging me from getting the Z5. LOL. A good camera is still important to me.

z3's battery - 3100mAh
z5's batter - 2900mAh

their battery test is quite close to real life usage

but do take note that z3's battery usage is with default android kitkat. if your z3 upgraded to android L, many users mentioned the battery life is slightly shorten.

I mean yes I read the specs "A device with an IP68 rating is tested with continuous immersion in fresh water to depths of 1.5m for up to 30 minutes. Sony’s new language on the waterproofing abilities of its Xperia devices suggest that despite this IP68 certification, Sony is not confident in how you may use the phone, potentially causing water damage and thus having to repair the phone under warranty. I used it in plain tap water, for far far less than time frame and water depth. I didn't even use it. just left it there for a few mins. put it this way, water is conductive and randomly triggers buttons and icons while the screen is on so it's really pointless to use underwater unless it's video recording.

and yes I made sure the flaps are closed but it still failed.



I forgot to mentioned that the z5's flap seems to be more secure. tighter? and seems to be slightly lower (depressed?)

waterproofing is such a tricky feature to provide. there are so many factors that can affect the ability to waterproof.

I've heard some xperia users experienced water leak, brought to swimming pool though flaps firmly closed . But touchwood, so far i've been bringing my z1, z2, z3 to pool, wash it under tap regularly, never had any leakage.

To be fair, I downgraded my S5 from lollipop to Kitkat and the battery life improved by leaps and bound.

It is definitely the software also sucking more juices, not just the hardware alone.

Post some battery life. We know heavy usage definitely cannot last two days even for note series.

With the z5, the SA mode has been improved though. Can see the difference when comparing z3+ and z3 with it. When it's spot on, the photos looks great. But the problem is it isn't spot on all the times. A normal consumer shouldnt have to fiddle with settings, pro mode to get good image quality in different conditions. Sony makes the sensors themselves. They should know better how to optimise it.

In the Android authority the reviewer mentioned that sometimes in SA mode, 23mp looks nicer, but most of the time 8mp looks nicer, and it's the same for me too. I took everyshot in both 23mp and 8mp. In a some shots, the 23mp shots looks better. Which tells me that SA mode still needs a bit more improvements.

There is supposed to be a major camera app update right? Maybe that'll help. Haha.
