Look....these china brands that copy/create clone of other china brands, they are not in the upscale market of creating models with the best specs and design. All they do is introduce clones with borderline specs where the main selling point is the price factor. Dont expect them to come out with a model that has f-hd resolution, 2gb ram, 32gb rom and price it at USD$140. This Xiaocai G6 is just like every other generic mtk quadcore model available out there now. $140 might be cheap, but that is if u buy direct from china. If buy from websites, they mark up by another 50 bucks at least then its gonna cost ard $200+, which really isnt that cheap anymore.

Mi2s is really expensive eh..
Expensive depends on what you base your comparison on. If wanna compare with other china brand phone models, go ask yourself wat processor mi2 using and how much inbuild ram/rom? Wat camera they using compare to ur other generic china phones? If compare with international brands, its still 30-40% cheaper than say a galaxy s3 or htc model with similar specs. Even for china phones, the logic of pay peanuts get monkey still applies. Seriously, for normal everyday usage, any old mtk quadcore phone out there is more than sufficient. But if u are looking at the more prominent brands/models with better specs, then there is no basis for comparison with the lower tier models.

India will be getting this phone 4 days after the official release in China.....by god....India are actually getting a fair share of china android phone models released in their local market but for watever reason these phones will never see the light of day in our shores....really keeping my fingers crossed and hoping against hope somehow the K900 might be available locally.

Edit: So apparently, i read that a Lenovo executive said the phone wld be available in China, India, Russia, Philippines, Vietnam and Indonesia during initial launch......NO SINGAPORE!!!??? Wtf.....we are no better off than the 3rd world countries out there.......

The population speaks.. All those countries the population is high so the market. They can sell volumes. In Singapore we are found of Samsung, Apple, ...other brands.. Also we need LTE support..

I slightly dis-agree with you. The pricing depends on companies strategy. Here is my thoughts..

Samsung, Apple all have significant amount of profit while selling Phones. Their overhead are quite high. Lots of $ invested in R&D.. Typically most of the companies will sell 3 times their material cost. if material cost is $100 then they will sell at $300 which will cover agent/distributor vomission, marketing, salary, overhead etc..

Example below: Not comparing to anyone..
Let us assume a start-up company. The boss worked for a Famous Phone company and the company closed and dissolved due to market forces and competition . The boss is out of job and tried hard to get into mobile phone industry.. Hard to find Job..

So he looked at market, bank offer loan at relatively low interest. He has knowledge on mobile. He is confident he can start own phone and penetrate market. He borrows at 1% interest rate.. Makes android phone.. Employ low cost labor. Start producing. His goal is not to make profit.. but rather gain market share. So he decides to sell on cost. Material cost+ salary. Direct sell. no middleman. Low price.. If he can sell, he takes home his salary, pay for his employees,. This is his strategy.

So I believe some of the china companies may follow the above foot steps.

They are reaching out to another set of market there. That's why iPhone is rumored to release 1 budget iphone and 1 normal iPhone.

They want to dip into 2 markets and, especially India, many cant afford expensive phones, this would appeal to them.

For RAM I understand ideally should be 2GB but minimum of 1GB. What about internal storage? A lot of models have only 4GB. Is this sufficient?

I think minimum 16gb and, useable would be around 10-11gb left.

Definitely need microSD if you get 16GB.

Huh? wat talking you? Do you even know what i was implying in 1st place? When suchaloser said the mi2 was expansive, i asked if he was comparing mi2's pricing to other low cost/low spec china android phone or international brands like samsung n htc. Mi2 uses much better hardware compare to your run of the mill mtk quadcore phones so naturally it wld be priced at a higher range compare to this low cost phones. When compared to a similarly spec samsung or htc phone, the Mi2 is still alot cheaper. What i wanna say is that for simple price comparison you need to compares apples to apples, oranges to oranges. I dont even know why you are rambling about operational, rnd costs and what not.

Might be right but not the whole picture. Population numbers are not everything. Smart phone penetration rate is a big factor too. And guess which country in the world has the highest smartphone penetration rate? Every tom dick harry jane janet from the age of 7 to 70 has a phone in singapore. Some people even have more than 2 lines(at least i personally know quite a few ppl who actually owns 3-4 lines). I think more and more people here are looking at getting a good but budget smartphone as their main, if not backup, phone. I mean this is precisely the reason why this thread exists in the 1st place rite?

All things said, the potential market for cheap china phones here is still smaller compared to other countries, but i dont think there is totally no room here for china companies to dip into. Afterall, i dont think they are in direct competition with the big-wig brands. With good enough specs, decent build quality and an agressive pricing strategy, i think china phones might just strive in their own way.

Taobao is the only one currently taking pre-orders....2000+ rmb which is near to the supposed retail price upon release. I cant find any other sites taking pre-orders.
