Check out the software, hardware recommendation and detailed instructions at https://uavpal.com :s7:
Nice! For a while I thought it's gonna land in the construction site... I supposed the landing can be harsh and abrasive if it was just all rocks and sand around?

Some ranting about Npark NFZ @ http://up.itcow.com/2018/05/11/nparks-didnt-say-where-you-can-fly/ :D :

NParks didn’t say where you can fly.

Some got really happy when they saw the list published by NParks on parks that has no drones allowed sign. Does that mean other parks not listed can fly? Dont be stupid …Why i say NParks list is useless. There are a total of 69 parks listed on nparks website. www.nparks.gov.sg
The list they provide has 20 listed. Does it mean you can fly at the other 49? Of course not! Because places like Changi Beach park is a no brainer. It’s in the direct path of landing planes and you won’t be able to start your DJI drones anyway as it is a DJI No Fly Zone. I was free , i made a google worksheet. Will do a proper post later on my website http://bit.ly/NParksdrones
NParks shouldn’t have release a list of parks with no sign. They should have been straight forward and release a list of parks where we can fly. We can understand there is no such list as:

  • They do not want to be liable if there’s accidents to park go-ers who do not fly drones but are there to enjoy the park.
  • Then don’t have any list to begin with. CAAS has clear rules and the law is clear. Keep your drone in line of sight, keep it below 200 ft, do not fly within 5km of airports.

Hmmmm.....also make me wonder is Cantral Catchment Nature Reserve (MacRitchie) = MacRitchie Reservoir Park ? :s22:

DJI tello anyone has any input?

Was thinking of getting one until I realized there is no RC, video is only 720, and only works with selected phones (gotta check). After investing in RC and some extra batteries, it will be quite close to a spark... U flying indoors or outdoors?

U guys don't gone rogue play pray hor :s13:

SINGAPORE - Fly a drone within 5km of an airbase, and you could find it taken down by one of the Republic of Singapore Air Force's (RSAF) latest weapons.

The Jammer Gun, when fired, emits a signal to jam the control signals of the drone, which will then be unable to survey the premises of the base.

The RSAF also has the Drone Catcher system, which uses a net to snare errant drones. The two weapons will be in action this weekend (May 26 - 27) at the open field next to Jurong East MRT station. The demonstration is part of the RSAF's celebrations to mark its golden jubilee this year, and the final stop of RSAF50.....

LOL on their "staged-controlled-environment" demo , field report from https://www.facebook.com/groups/DjiMavicSingapore/ :

Richmond Siranjeevi

RSAF event at Jurong East.

I spoke to a SLTC from TAB ATC while I was there, had a really good conversation with him, too bad he didn't allow me to record because he said he don't do interviews.

I obviously told him this is a controlled environment on what they demonstrated and he said yes the technologies are all in its infant stage.

I then brought up how does the RSAF know if someone is flying at 4.99km away from an airbase and he said well at most they can only educate the public on safety via their events and give out flyers.

I shared with him my idea, he said its great but he said the difficult part is the bridging between CAAS and MINDEF. They are slowly doing R&D but more anti-drone it seems. He too understands that the permit approval takes a long time but he mentioned that CAAS is flooded with applications it seems.

Onto the drone catcher and the jammer, well from the video you can see that the drone catcher failed 3 times sadly, the jammer however was not LIVE so I didn't know how it works.

I went to what seemed to be a area closed off to public but I managed to get a glimpse of the company and its from DSO National Laboratories (likely to be under DSTA) they did not allow me to fly my drone for them to test their system and they were also not able to disclose how the technology works.

Based on some of the feedback I got from the Whatsapp group is that it hijacks 2.4/5Ghz and GPS, I am not well verse in this area but I did pose a question to the same SLTC about FPV drones and its capabilities, turns out he said yes of course in real world these new technologies may not be sufficient to deter errant drone users, no doubt there are much more sophisticated drones out there that cannot be detected or even intercepted by what they currently have.

In all it seems like at least 2 people within the RSAF like the idea of developing an app that allows users to know if flying has ended in camps so that NFZ stays temporary instead of 24/7 although they do have emergency flights that usually takes 10-15 minutes to go airborne.
They did like the idea of signing in with a SingPass portal to keep the information accounted for but they need to find a way to allow ATCs to push a button or also login to know where each pilots are and if all of them have landed when there is emergency.

Both of them said they will bring this idea across without making any promises since drones are still relatively "new" and gaining popularity among Singaporeans. In the meantime he said, try to stay out of NFZ as much as possible for the safety of all people.

Moving forward PLAB will be moving out and there will be more space to fly, just that its a decade away.
To end this off. Always fly first, later then ask.

Can't agree more on this comment:

William Fong

Mark is a light weight drone without GPS positioning, without gimbals for stabilization and the preferred mode of control is our smart phone. These specifications placed Mark in the market segment of someone who is looking for a selfie or wefie drone that works in a confined environment, like in a building or passageway between structures, or outdoor, open field, with fairly good light or no wind. This drone will also be better operated within line of sight due to the small size of our smart phone WiFi antenna . Creator can always tweak the operable range of the drone within the App. But, will the drone still be within the signal range with acceptable strength for communication with our smart phone? For user who prefer a longer range drone, there’s a controller combo available. The controller has antenna that can boost the WiFi signal strength providing a far longer communication range between drone & smart phone compares to the tiny smart phone antenna. Light weight drone can also be easily swayed by wind; without gimbals for stabilization, video recorded will not be pretty.
